Title: Sit at my right hand / Psalm 110
This psalm is a Messianic prophecy written by David. Jesus interpreted this psalm as referring to himself, and so did Peter. See Matthew 22:41-46, Acts 2:34. David with a vision for the Messiah!
1. "Sit at my right hand" (1)
"Says the LORD to my lord" (1). These are the words of God to the Messiah, the Lord of David. David was inspired to look to the coming Messiah and call him "My Lord." a blessed person "You sit at my right hand". These are the words God speaks to Jesus, who died and ascended into heaven. The purpose of sitting at the right hand of God is to completely destroy the power of the enemy Satan. With the second coming of the Lord, the power of Satan will be completely destroyed.
2. The Lord, the King with the Scepter of Power (2-3)
"He will send forth the scepter of Your power" (2). The scepter is a symbol of royal power. The Lord's handing over his scepter to the Messiah in Zion is a proclamation of Messianic kingship. The devil was now completely under the control of the Messiah's power. The Messiah rules the universe among enemies.
“In the day of your power, your people rejoice and consecrate themselves in holy garments” (3). The Messiah's reign brings destruction to the enemies, but salvation, devotion, and renewal to the Lord's chosen people. "Putting on the holy garments" means justification by faith and attaining a sanctified life, "joyful devotion" means that the people who have received the grace of salvation rejoice and consecrate their bodies and material things to the Lord." The young people of the Lord come to the Lord like the morning dew” means that the Lord’s fresh servants, shining like dew, will come to the Lord by receiving the grace of the Holy Spirit pouring out like the morning dew.
3. The Lord as Eternal Priest (4)
“You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek” (4). The Messiah was given the priesthood. The priest is the mediator between God and man. Reconciling sinful humans to God is the work of the priest who died as a sacrifice for atonement and who always lives to prophesy and pray. The Messiah here is not a temporary ordinary priest of the Aaronic line, but an eternal special priest according to the order and tradition of Melchizedek, who does not belong to the law and is ignorant. Therefore, God's mercy toward man cannot change. As long as there is an eternal priest, God's mercy does not change.
4. The Lord as Judge (5-7)
“He will smite the kings and destroy them” (5). The Messiah was also given judgment. A ruler who cannot judge and eradicate the forces of injustice cannot become a perfect ruler. The day is coming when the Lord at your right hand will be angry. At that time, they strike down the kings who oppose God, raise their heads, and sing the victory song.
5. Application: Like David, let us confess Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God, as King, Priest, and Judge and receive his rule. Like Stephen, let us wear holy clothes as young men as fresh as the morning dew, and joyfully give our bodies and lives to the Lord. . Let's receive the grace of God that falls secretly like the dew of dawn, become a youth like the dew, and wet the world like a parched land with grace.
