Title: Solomon's Temple②/ 1 Kings 5:1-18
Contents
The history of Solomon's temple is indeed significant in the history of the chosen people of Israel.
Because it heralds a new era in which the old portable tabevnacle is replaced by a fixed (settlement) temple (1 Kings 8:1-11).
This heralds the arrival of a new era of stability and peace, after the era of instability of the past has come to an end. As the center of worship, which was achieved with Solomon's temple era, settled as the central sanctuary, the era of Jerusalem as the national, religious, and political center of Israel's chosen people came.
If you know this, it heralds the coming of the age of the New Testament church, which will be accomplished through Jesus Christ, who is the substance of the temple, and the age of universal Jerusalem, which will be the center of world evangelism.
We would like to continue to receive messages about Solomon's Temple.
I. It has a neo-capitalist purpose.
Text 5:3 says, “No house was built for the name of the Lord.” This means that David, Solomon's father, was not able to build a temple for the name of God because he waged wars on all sides.
Text 5:5 says [...He will build a house for my name] [...I am going to build a house for the name of the LORD my God...]. This word was used by King Solomon when he asked Hiram, king of Tire, for building materials. Solomon clearly states [for the name of the LORD my God], thus revealing the purpose of his temple construction.
In 1 Kings 6:2, it says [the temple that Solomon built for the Lord].
In 1 Kings 8:29, it is also referred to as [the place the Lord said before, My name shall be there]. In addition, this word is repeated in many places in the Bible (1 Chronicles 22:19). All of these biblical expressions indicate the purpose of Solomon's temple construction.
'For the name of God!'
This word means ① the living God, a personal God. It is a word that is distinct from impersonal idol gods. ② It means the only God. It is a word that distinguishes it from pagan polytheism. ③ It is a word that indicates the presence of the living God. It refers to a special place where God is present among humans. ④ These are the words that are intended to glorify God.
Then, Solomon's temple is a word that is completely different in meaning and content from other Gentile temples. Also, the means of ups and downs or means of ups and downs that boast of someone's honor or wealth
informs you that it is not. Its purpose is to serve, love, and please the utterly living God. This was the fulfillment of the prophecy that Moses had foretold by inspiration. It is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Deuteronomy 12:5, which says, “It is the place the Lord your God chooses to put his name, his dwelling place.”
II. Solomon's Temple was located on Mount Moriah.
2 Chronicles 3:1 says [Solomon began to build the house of the LORD on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, where he had previously appeared to his father, the Jebusite, the place David had appointed on the threshing floor of Ornan.]
There are some really amazing things coming out. He said that the place where Solomon was going to build the temple was the place where Abraham, who was the father of faith in Israel, the famous chosen people, experienced 'Jehovah Jireh'. It was the place where Abraham arrived after putting a wood for a burnt offering on his only son Isaac and traveling for three days. It was the place God had 'directed' to Abraham (Genesis 22:2, 3, 4).
There, on Mount Moriah, Abraham bound his only son, Isaac, whom he loved, and laid him on a sweet tree, stretched out his hand, took the sword, and was about to seize the son. At that very moment, suddenly, an angel of the Lord came down from heaven. And he hastily called him, Abraham, Abraham. The name of the one who appeared to him was 'Angel of the Lord'. That person was Jesus Christ, who appeared frequently in the pre-incarnation age (Genesis 22:11, 16:7).
After Jesus appeared to Abraham and commended him for his faith, he told the boy not to proceed further. Again, there was a heavy silence of silence over the Moria Mountains. Then Abraham found a ram with its horns hanging in the bushes. It was then that Abraham realized the providence of God. He slaughtered the ram with its horns hanging in the bushes and offered a burnt offering in place of his son Isaac. At that time, Abraham named the place 'Jehovah Jireh'. It meant 'prepared on the mountain of the Lord'.
God provided the steps of Abraham and the ram on a throne higher than Mount Moriah. God tied the horn of a ram to a bush at the moment when Abraham grabbed his son Isaac and bound him. And he made it a burnt offering in place of Isaac. God could never be the god of murder. This was a Messianic prophecy that eloquently announces the sacrifice in the place of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who will be hung on the cross to become a ransom for mankind in the distant future. It is there that David designated the site of the temple that Solomon would build.
About 1,000 years after Abraham experienced this kind of grace here, David met God's messenger again here. This place was called 'Ornan's threshing floor'.
The threshing floor of Ornan was also an unforgettable place for Saint David. David ordered a census of Israel. Because of this, God became very angry and tried to kill David.
At this time, David was being punished by God, and 70,000 of his people were dying of the plague. This was God's punishment for David's sin of relying on man instead of God.
At this time, an angel of God was pointing toward Jerusalem with a sword. Ornan and his four sons, who were working on the threshing floor, saw this scene and hadtily hid together. Then David repented of his sins and asked for forgiveness. Then, through Gad the prophet, David told David to offer a burnt offering on the threshing floor of Ornan.
After that, David would build the 'house of God' there, and he called this 'the altar of burnt offerings in Israel' (1 Chronicles 22: , 2 Samuel 24:21-25).
David bought the threshing floor for 600 shekels of gold for the base of his burnt offering. When David built the altar of repentance there, fire fell from heaven and he bought the sacrifice and experienced the grace of God for forgiveness.
David designated this place of grace as the site of the temple that his son Solomon would build. Now, unfortunately, you can see that there is a mosque in this place.
It is on Mount Moriah, on the hill of Golgotha in this region, where Jesus became the sacrifice for the ransom. Then you will know that God's will for Solomon's temple in Jerusalem was already planned.
Our Kyunghyang alumni come to realize once again that God's will was not in Sillim-dong, but here in the present.
III. Solomon's Temple History
Solomon asked Hiram, king of Tire, for timber to build the temple. He sent Lebanon's cedar lumber and cypress trees from the sea to weave them out of the sea to build the temple, and Solomon sent food (wheat and oil) instead (1 Kings 5:1-12).
Solomon summoned 30,000 men from Israel (1 Kings 5:13). These men were sent alternately to Lebanon at the rate of 10,000 a month to do logging under the supervision of bishop Adoniram. So, I had them do logging in the mountains for one month and take care of household chores at home for two months (1 Kings 5:14).
At that time, there were about 153,000 Gentiles in Israel (2 Chronicles 2:17), of which there were 70,000 workers, 80,000 loaders, and 3,300-3,600 bishops. It seems that fifty people are divided into a group and one bishop is responsible (1 Kings 5:16, 2 Chronicles 2:17, 2 Kings 1:9). Then, more than 180,000 people were mobilized for the construction of Solomon's temple.
In order not to make any loud noises at the temple construction site, large and precious white stones were removed from the quarry and polished to serve as the foundation stone for the temple and piled up (1 Kings 5:17, 1 Kings 6:7). It is said that this work was done by the builders of Solomon, the builders of Hiram, and the men of Gebal (1 Kings 5:18).
Dear saints,
This time we again thought about the building of Solomon's temple.
Solomon's building of the temple had a clear purpose. It was for 'God's name' and 'God's glory'. It was extremely neo-capitalist. There was no claim, position, or interest in the history of this great temple building. And the place where the temple was built was Mount Moriah, where Abraham met God, and the threshing floor of Ariuna, where David met God. It was the very area where Jesus was sacrificed in the distant future.
God gave peace and peace in all directions during the construction of Solomon's temple. There was no adversary or disaster. A peace treaty was signed with an enemy country that had always acted as an enemy around Israel (1 Kings 5:12), and furthermore, they also participated in the construction of this temple together.
In addition, Solomon's temple construction was carried out in a seamless organization and orderly system. Numerous workers with more than 180,000 mobilized, each faithfully carried out their respective ministries. From 3,300 to over 3,600 directors, you can guess from the fact that they conducted history on the spot. There was Adoniram, the general supervisor (5:14), and 3,300 interim supervisors under him (5:16), including 30,000 workers in Lebanon, 70,000 damguns and 80,000 stone-cutters, a total of 183,300. It counts as 1 person.
What is more interesting to us is that among these laborers were not only Israel, but also many of the Gentiles living in Israel. The number of them was 153,600, of which 70,000 were commanders, 80,000 were felling trees in the mountains, and 3,600 were supervisors and made the people work (2 Chronicles 2: 17-18). There seems to be a difference in the number of interim bishops between Chronicles and Kings, but there is no problem because the number of bishops can change over the course of the work.
The providence that God allowed a large number of Gentiles to participate in Solomon's temple construction foreshadows the fact that all mankind will participate in the gospel kingdom (church) that will be accomplished in the age of the New Testament Church (Romans 1:16).
John, who worked in a brick factory, was only thirteen. Every time he went to church, he thought about paving the dirt road leading from the main road into the narrow alley. Then one day, he took a small portion of the small pay he received from the brick factory he worked for, bought a brick at a time, and started laying it in the alley in front of the church.
The church members who saw this were skeptical at first, but later, the church members who saw this boy's loyalty were so moved that they all united and bought the bricks together, and in a week it became a road with excellent brick pavement. If John had done this on his own, it would have taken years.
The members of the church, who had a heart to think about the church, went further and demolished the old chapel and built a new temple. A year later, there was even a beautiful and great new temple standing there. At that time, thirteen-year-old John bought a brick in the alleyway leading to the chapel and started laying it. He was later blessed as John Wanamaker, widely known as the king of department stores in the world. After that, he continued to be blessed and took the lead in building the house of God, becoming a person who made a big contribution to the construction of YMCA buildings around the world.
someone said He said, 'Give until it hurts you'. I pray that this will be the message of blessing you have been given to the Kyunghyangin today.
-Amen-
