Title: Son of Abraham (Genesis 21:1-21)
1. The birth of the promised son Isaac
Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old. Hebrews 11:11 says, “Sarah herself was too old to conceive, and she was like a dead person.” But Abraham and Sarah had a son without hope. This was because they believed in the One who promised, and they gained the strength to conceive. Isaac was circumcised eight days after he was born, according to God's command. Abraham named his son Isaac “Laughter.” Laughter is a human privilege. The gospel itself is good news. Christianity is a religion that overflows with the joy of salvation and peace. Laughter erupted from Abraham's tent, and hymns of joy and joy flowed out. We do not know the deadline set by God. But if you wait, he will fulfill that promise someday. Abraham also had Isaac in his arms 30 years after receiving the promise that he would give him a son.
2. Ishmael was separated from Isaac
The day came when Isaac was weaned. It is said that the Israelites weaned at the age of three and had a feast. On this day, Sarah saw Hagar's son Ishmael mocking Isaac. At this time, Ishmael was 16 years old. Ishmael's personality was as rough as a wild donkey (Genesis 16:12). Sarah thought she might kill Isaac to monopolize the business. Sarah pleaded with Abraham to drive Hagar and Israel out. Abraham fell into deep sorrow over his son. But God instructed Abraham to listen to Sarah (verse 12). Abraham obeyed God's word and, according to Sarah's plea, filled Hagar and Ishmael with bread and a skin of water and made them leave the tent. Abraham obeyed God's command unconditionally.
