Title: Son of God / John 1:34
(John 1:34) I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.
Today, following last week, John the Baptist witnessed the third of Jesus Christ, “Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
First, when Satan tempted Jesus
(Matthew 4:3) The tempter came to Jesus and said, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become these loaves of bread."
(Matthew 4:6) He said, "If you are the Son of God, jump down." It is written, "He will command his angels for you, and they will support you with their hands, so that your foot will not strike a stone."
Let's think about what we tested.
1. The concept of the Son of God in the Near East
1) In ancient Eastern religions
In Egypt, the rulers, especially the Pharaohs, were all regarded as sons of Re, and they were also found in Babylonia and Assyria, and even the Roman emperors in the New Testament period were given the title son of God.
2) Greekism
In Greek, the expression was not limited to rulers only, but anyone believed to possess any kind of divine power was called "son of God" by others, or even took that title for himself. Those who do wonderful things are called “sons of God” or something similar (those who do things like gods).
Therefore, when Satan tempts Jesus Christ, if you are truly the Son of God, show your power so that many people and Satan himself will believe. To present yourself as the son of a god who wields strange, mystical powers (sometimes shamans dancing on swords or strange powers are seen as great).
However, if Jesus shows himself by showing strange powers, it does not end at the level of simply following pagan ideology, but has a meaning that prevents us from properly carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ.
2. Jewish thought of the Son of God
For the Jews, the idea of the Son of God has very deep roots.
1) The people of Israel were called the sons of God.
Exodus 4:22 You shall say to Pharaoh, saith the LORD, Israel is my son, my firstborn.
Jeremiah 3:22 Return, you rebellious children, and I will heal your rebellion. Behold, we come to you, for you are the LORD our God.
2) The Israelites often referred to their kings as sons of God.
3) Those who have received a special commission from God, those who have been commissioned before God for a special purpose are called the sons of God. Therefore, the Jews called the heavenly books the Son of God, and the Messiah also called the Son of God.
3. The Son of God in the New Testament
1) It means the Messiah (Lord of Suffering).
He came to suffer on the cross.
2) Heirs of God, the Son of the Father.
In the Old Testament, God gave the land of Canaan to the children of Israel, the sons of God. This is a blessing that leads to the Messiah, and to us as spiritual Israel, a heaven, a new heaven and a new earth are promised through the Messiah.
### Synoptic Gospels ###
Jesus' being the Son of God is not the same as calling the common people the sons of God.
(1) Verses in which the Son of God is used with the Messiah
㉠ Peter's confession: He claims that the Messiah came from God and has a special relationship with God.
(Matthew 16:16) Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the
you are my son
㉡ Mt 26:63-64
(Matthew 26:63) While Jesus was still, the high priest said to him, "I make you swear by the living God, tell us if you are the Christian, the Son of God."
(Matthew 26:64) Jesus said to them, "You have said it. But I tell you, after this
You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven.
㉢ Luke 4:41: This is an account of the testimony of demons.
(Luke 4:41) Demons came out of many people and cried out, saying, “You are the Son of God.” Jesus rebuked him and refused to allow them to speak, for he knew that he was the Christ.
(2) The verses that focus on Jesus' own self-consciousness about being a son.
㉠ Self-consciousness is evident in Jesus' prayer.
(Matthew 11:27) All things have been given to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father.
son and son's cow
No one knows the Father except he who receives the revelation according to his will.
-- It does not indicate the inferiority of the Son to the Father, but that God makes the Son known.
will be.
㉡The parable of the vineyard: It represents the special work of Jesus.
㉢Son of David: Here Jesus is shown to be the Son of God and the Son of David.
㉣ Luke 22:29: It is about appointing the disciples to the kingdom of God.
(Luke 22:29) As my Father has entrusted the kingdom to me, so I also entrust to you.
Looking at the important roles of being the son of Jesus
① Baptism: This is not a new experience of becoming a son. What is already in the consciousness of Jesus with the voice of heaven
It is better to see it as declared.
This reflects the pre-existence and uniqueness of the Son in Psalm 2:7 and Isaiah 42:1.
Psalm 2:7 I bring you the spirit, and the LORD said to me, "You are my son; today I have begotten you.
(Isaiah 42:1) Behold my servant whom I hold, my chosen one, with whom my heart rejoices; I have given him my god, and he will do justice to the Gentiles.
②Test: The focus is on the consciousness of being the son of Jesus. As you can see here, Jesus never denied or was unaware of his Sonship.
③ Transfiguration: In parallel with the baptismal article, the identity of Jesus was confirmed in a supernatural way, both visually and verbally. This event makes it clear that the disciples saw Jesus as more than just a human being.
(Luke 9:35) And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my son, the chosen one; listen to him.

(1) The uniqueness of the Son of Man as the Son of God
㉠ As the only God, it refers to the uniqueness of His Son.
(John 1:14) The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory,
The glory of the only begotten, full of grace and truth
㉡The Testimonies of Jesus as the Son of Man
(Matthew 16:27) The Son of Man will come in the glory of the Father with his angels, and then he will repay each one according to what he has done.
(Matthew 16:28) Truly, I say to you, among those who stand here, before they die, the Son of Man will
