sadness of not knowing
Mark 10:17-22
There are many times in our lives that we do not know ourselves. There are times when we forget the crucial moments of our lives as if we were asleep. I've come a long way and now I'm thinking about it, but it was already wrong at the time I forgot long ago. The problem was that even though it was wrong, I didn't know it was wrong at the time, so this is what it is now. It means that today's sadness exists because I did not realize the truth that if the process goes wrong, the result will also be wrong.
However, his values, outlook on life, purpose of life, and beliefs, which he was so confident in, are shattered after meeting the person of Jesus. At least he was confident in himself, and he thought he knew everything about his life, so he went to Jesus first and asked a question with confidence, but he couldn't be so miserable in front of the answer he got back. Guys, people don't know themselves this way. Take a good look at this person in today's text. He said he knew everything, but decidedly did not know himself. So, you can see yourself becoming miserable in front of your broken values and beliefs. As the Bible puts it, he left Jesus “with a sad look and with sorrow.”
Now, what is the decisive cause of this person today? He didn't know too much about himself except what he knew. Without knowing what I needed to know, I lived a free and self-assured life. In today's world, there are many people who are proud of themselves. By status, by honor, by learning, by wealth...how many people live by believing in themselves? What's more, the serious problem is that even believers are living in an overt way without knowing about their true beliefs.
Consider an athlete. A person who exercises should know his or her own shortcomings whenever he or she engages in practice. I need to keep in mind once again the loopholes where I am prone to mistakes, and my weaknesses. 'This is my weakness, so be careful. I'm good at making mistakes like this, so I have to be alert.' You have to think about this and enter the game to win. The same is true. In order to become a person of complete character, you need to know what you lack, your faults, and what is important. So today, Jesus is asking this question, “You think you have done it all, and you shout out that you have it all, but there is one thing that is lacking, have you thought about it?”
Dear saints,
All I know is that I am the past me. What is important is me standing before the Lord. Not knowing yourself is a great misfortune. Not knowing yourself is a great sorrow. In order to one day stand before the Lord and not feel sad and worried, you need to know who you are now. I pray that you will find yourself before Almighty God and before His Word.
