Soul Food
(1 Corinthians 11:18-29)
2004 passed by God's great grace and today is the last Sunday of this year (...) Another year is coming to an end. But God is eternal. The year has passed in a hurry, but there is a realization in the passing time.(...)
There is a movie called "Soul Food". My grandmother, who had been preparing family meals every week for 40 years, was hospitalized. Naturally, the meal gatherings centered on grandmothers disappeared. Grandma had three daughters.(...) A quarrel arises among the three daughters. The young grandson, who could not see this happen, prepares a dinner prepared by his grandmother to bring the whole family together, and reconciles all the family members. Soul Food is a word that refers to food that gives strength or has a very special memory.
In the Bible, Soul Food, which gives strength and encouragement, and a table containing the soul are often mentioned.(...) The bread and water that Elijah ate,(...) A feast for the second son who returned,(...) The Passover of Israel Supper,(...) Jesus' five bottles, etc...(...)
The Lord said, "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you" (John 6:53). Just as the body needs food, the spirit needs Jesus Christ.(...)
1. The Lord is our Soul Food.
The bread the Lord broke means his flesh that he tore for our sins.(...) The cup the Lord recommended means the blood shed for our sins.(...) Why is it the most common Cheap bread and wine? The Lord likened Himself to the most ordinary and cheapest thing.(...) Humbleness is His central value.(...) When we pour bread and wine into our bodies, we becomes one with Jesus who humbled himself infinitely.(..) You must be humble to eat soul food.(...)
2. The sacrament becomes thanksgiving and praise only when we eat and drink humbly.
Jesus' flesh and blood were symbolized by bread and wine.(...) By putting the symbolized body of Christ into my body, we receive as mine the soul of Christ's broad love and service.
3. The Lord's Supper is a banquet of service and sharing.
Sharing the bread is sharing the body of Jesus, the love that united mankind. Sharing the cup is learning to share the blood of Jesus, the love that saved mankind. We have become closer to the flesh and blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13). Amen.
