Title: Spirit and Faith
Contents There are many better texts on this subject, but I am still pondering the Gospel of John, so I am pondering this verse today. The Feast of Tabernacles is one of the three Jewish festivals. The purpose of the feast is to reflect on the hardships and help of God from the Exodus to Canaan, and to give thanks to God without forgetting that fact. The last day that lasts for 8 days is called a big day, so there are many exciting events, etc. The water of Siloam is raised and poured around the altar, and the crowd completes the festival with singing, dancing and praise. While watching the crowd and the joyous event, Jesus was very excited and “stands up and shouts,” saying, “No water from Siloam, but living water only the work of the Holy Spirit can satisfy people’s thirst, emptiness, and regret I shouted that I could.
I. people's thirst
① People of all ages live with thirst. Struggle for the sea The term “human culture” is used in beautiful terms. But if you look at it coldly, it is an expression of human struggle to quench their thirst. ② Solomon's confession before Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 explains the meaning of today's culture. ③ For this achievement, a person can do all he can with his own strength, such as discipline, morality, sincerity, achievement, learning, knowledge, music, art, and literature. have done it all over again There are no consequences of haggle. As Naechon Sensei said, “Even if we give the whole earth to one person, we cannot satisfy the exhaustion.” ④ Here, the Bible shows that this problem is solved by power other than human power. That is the power of the Holy Spirit. John 1:11-12, Acts 2:13. In 2 Corinthians 5:13, etc., the power is explained by other powers, such as new wine, madness, etc.
II. So, what does Jesus say on this matter?
① It is clearly stated in John 14:16-18, 25-27. God the Father is the plan of salvation, God the Son is the fulfillment of salvation, and God the Holy Spirit allows each individual to experience salvation. ② Without the work of the Holy Spirit, “faith” is absolutely impossible. The Holy Spirit surrounds us more densely than air. He hears, sees, examines, teaches, instructs, rebukes, helps and grows. ③ There is not a single person in the Bible who has experienced the establishment of a right relationship with God by his own strength.
Ⅲ. Let's look at a concrete example.
① Acts 1:8 Before he ascended to heaven, he briefly told his disciples that the qualification to be a witness of Jesus is the power of the Holy Spirit. ② Acts 2:1-4 As promised, the disciples changed. Even a disciple who had lived with Jesus for three years did not say anything about Jesus or was very faint. It was very different after Pentecost. It's not after three or four years of studying theology. It's a change in just a few days. ③ Acts 7:54-60 This is the scene of Stephen's martyrdom. It is absolutely impossible with human strength. It is a scene that cannot be imagined by human power. This could have been by being “filled with the Holy Spirit.” ④ Acts 9:1-5 The event that Saul changed and became an evangelist is also impossible with human strength and logic. The encounter of the Lord's Spirit can be stubbornness, hardship, and the passion of this evangelism. ⑤ Another thing is that Saul, who experienced this miracle, became a god and not an angel. There was trouble and conflict like Romans 7:18-20, despair like 7:24, and three years of trouble in the Arabian desert in Galatians 1:17. When encountering the law of the Holy Spirit in Romans 8:1-3, the solution to the problem came. - Let's do this for today.
IV. The question is, how can we encounter the work of the Holy Spirit?
① The text clearly calls the “thirst one”. The qualification to face the power of the Holy Spirit is “thirst”. These words are hunger for oneself, worries, despair, and thirst for life. “He who labors and is heavy laden.” ② Then, “Come to Me” must go to Jesus. It is not a spatial movement. It is the attitude of the soul, the attitude of the whole person, the will of Jesus to buy and sell, and the one who hangs. ③ Our daily life, worship, hymns, prayers, and the Word must all be the attitude of the soul that clings to the Lord.
(Conclusion) There are many things we can do on our own strength in our lives, but “faith” is not something we can do on our own. “Jesus 2,000 years ago, the cross only tens of thousands of miles” There is no possibility of one in ten million by human power. It is a miracle that only happens when we encounter the Holy Spirit who works in the present, transcending time and space. This blessing to you...
