Title: Spirit to Save
2012.1.29 Sunday morning worship service
Bible: John 6:63-65
Title: The Spirit of Life
John 6:63-65 ‘63. It is the Spirit that gives life, and the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some among you who do not believe. Jesus said, “Who are the unbelievers and who will betray him?” 65. And he said to them, "Therefore, I said to you before, No one can come to me unless my Father allows him to come." - Amen.
There were many poor people in Jesus' day. Those who experienced the miracle of feeding 15,000 elders with 5 loaves and 2 fish came to make Jesus their king with great anticipation. But the Lord preached a long sermon that we must drink His flesh and blood to gain eternal life. These are the words spoken in the text when all those who did not understand these words left. You said that it is the Spirit that gives life, but I want you to understand the deep meaning of this verse as the title.
1. The source of life is in God
According to the Bible, when man became a man, God formed it out of dust and breathed life into his nostrils to become man (Genesis 2:7). Therefore, the source of life is not unique to living things, but given by God, so God can take it, and this is what we call death.
Psalm 36:9 “Truly you are the fountain of life, and in your light we will see light.”
Deuteronomy 30:16 “I command you today to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, his decrees, and his precepts, that you may live and multiply...
2. It is the Holy Spirit that gives life
Even if people have a mountain of philosophical and religious languages, they cannot save people. The Jews also knew God by knowledge, but they were rejected because they did not have a true conscience of faith.
Likewise, there are churches that have lived but are called dead (Rev 3:1, Church of Sardis). Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, no one can know or follow God's will. Although Paul was fluent in the law, it ended up killing people (Acts 26:10).
You can be regenerated only when the Holy Spirit comes (John 3:3-8)
So they confess Jesus as Lord (1 Corinthians 12:3, Matthew 16:17)
When the Holy Spirit comes, He will guide you into the truth (John 16:13).
When the Holy Spirit comes, we become witnesses (Acts 1:8).
Evangelism by force or means does not result in eternal life.
In fact, he said that whether we believe or not believe is the subject of God.
John 6:65 "He said again, "Therefore, I said to you before, No one can come to me except my Father let him come."
Matthew 11:27 “All things have been given to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and he who receives a revelation as the Son wishes.”
The Apostle Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit more than anyone else, and he was a man who fought against sin every day.
1 Corinthians 15:31 “By the boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, brethren, I declare that I die daily.”
But when sin was tormenting the new self within, he confessed that the Lord Jesus Christ had delivered him (Romans 7:24-25). And then he said: Romans 8:1-2 ‘1. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
It means that the Holy Spirit applies the atonement of the blood that Jesus shed on the cross. Only when the Holy Spirit is inspired will the Lord's atonement be applied.
It is the fact that the Holy Spirit worked when we believed in the atoning death that the Lord sacrificed by giving flesh and blood. Therefore, it is the evidence that those who believe in Jesus as Savior have received the Holy Spirit.
Those who came to eat the bread did not receive nor understand the salvation of the ransom through the flesh and blood of the Lord. How is today's time? Do you really regard the word of the Lord as life and are earnest to understand it spiritually? How secularly degenerate? Now, we pray that you and I will be able to spiritually hear the word of the Lord and gain life.
