Isaiah 29:1-12.
1 Alas, Ariel, Ariel, the city of David's encampment, year after year the season returns, 2 I will torment Ariel, and he will mourn and mourn, and he will be like Ariel to me. 4 You will be humbled and speak from the ground, and your voice will come out of the dust.
Your voice will come from the ground like the voice of a magician, and the voice of your words will chime out of the dust.
It will be like chaff that is blown away, and it will happen suddenly, in an instant. 6 The LORD of hosts hath thundered, and an earthquake, and a loud noise, and a tornado, and a storm,
He will punish them with a raging flame. 7 "Strike against Ariel and her fortress, the multitude of the nations that are attacking Ariel.
All who trouble him will be like a dream, like a vision of the night." 8 Even if a hungry man ate in a dream, when he wakes up, he is still empty inside.
Even if a thirsty person drinks in a dream, when he wakes up, he is weary.
It will be like the multitude of the nations that strike Mount Zion, as there is thirst in it.
Their drunkenness is not with wine,
Their staggering was not of strong drink, 10 for the LORD has poured out on you the Spirit of deep sleep.
for he has closed your eyes; he is the prophet and your leader.
11 Therefore all revelation has come to you as the words of a sealed book.
give it to the one who understands, and say, I beg you,
Read it, and he will answer, It is sealed, and I cannot read it.
12 And he gave the book to the illiterate and said to thee,
If you ask him to read it, he will reply, "I don't know how to write."
* Israel has fallen into a spiritual numbness through moral corruption and pride
It calls for divine punishment.
1. The cause of spiritual ignorance (9-10)
Spiritual ignorance results from a break in love and concern for God.
Spiritual ignorance is due to indolence and pride.
Spiritual insensitivity results in spiritual death, inability to discern the truth of God.
When you fall into spiritual ignorance, you love darkness more than light. (John 3:19-21)
19 And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, but men, because their deeds are evil,
He loved darkness more than light. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light.
lest their deeds be exposed. 21 Those who follow the truth come to the light, because their deeds are in God.
To show that he has done it.
2. Spiritual ignorance without seeing the apocalypse (11-12)
It is recorded in 1 Corinthians 2:14. 14 “The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.
For they seem foolish to him, and he cannot know them.
For such things are spiritually discerned." 15 A spiritual man judges all things, but he is not judged by anyone. 16 Who knows the heart of the Lord and can teach the Lord?
But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:1-3.
1 Brethren, I cannot speak to you as I do with the spiritual.
I treat you as carnal, even as little children in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk, not with food.
For you were not able to bear it, and you cannot do it now. 3 You are still carnal, for there are envy and strife among you.
How can they not be carnal and walk after men?
3. Consequences of Spiritual Ignorance
If you fall into spiritual ignorance, you will reject the truth of God, and you will become ignorant of God.
They even forget that they are children. Rather, it is against God
fall into Satan's machinations. The consequences of spiritual ignorance are disastrous.
