Title: stupid choice
“I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; choose life, that you and your descendants may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).
Numerous crossroads lie ahead of us. Some make their way towards a cliff of darkness from which they will never return. Today we would like to examine ourselves through Esau, who took this very path. What path did Esau take?
1) It is the path of distrust.
Esau's interest is on earth rather than God. This is the natural attitude of the heart of those who do not believe in God. The Bible speaks of those who take the broad road. The broad road is the road of death. Anyone who goes down this path will eventually fall down a cliff of darkness. Which way are you going now? Turn away from the path of unbelief. Come on the way of faith. God is waiting for you to turn.
2) It is the path of despair.
Picture Esau bringing his wealth to another place. Material abundance may exist, but spiritual abundance is a path of despair. Many people today commit the same folly. The greatest concern of a person on the path of despair is physical well-being. They just live their lives in pleasure and debauchery. Is your life perhaps in despair?
3) It is the way of sinners.
The way Esau chose is to forsake God. To forsake God means to go down the path of a sinner. The sinner's path ends in wandering and frustration. Like a ghost ship that has lost its destination, it is a road that ultimately ends in ruin, like a ship that gets caught on a rock and crashes. Those who have left God! Return to God. Only this way is the way to live and the way of the righteous.
4) stupid choice
The Bible tells the story of a rich, foolish young man. This young man came to Jesus to get eternal life, but the Lord said, "Sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." (Matthew 19:16-22, Luke 18:18-23)
At the crossroads of choosing between God and wealth, this rich young man chose wealth as his master and went back.
When you are forced to choose between following Jesus or owning property, which one will you choose?
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
Saints! Which way are we heading? It seems that we are living in the abundance and joy of life apart from God, but in reality it is not. The hearts of those who have lost God are filled with all kinds of fear and anxiety. The body says, "Let's eat and enjoy," but there is no real rest. But God's way is a blessed way. It is the path of righteousness, peace and joy. Won't you come down this road?
* Prayer: Almighty and holy Father God! We know that we are free to choose many things in our lives, even though we are born into this world and already destined for it. Leave what is destined to God, and help us to always choose God, choose Jesus Christ, choose the Word, and choose Heaven on the path we have to choose so that we may receive eternal life. So, give us the grace to live a life with no regrets forever. Help me to look to, pray, and rely on You alone, and never betray our faith on our own, and advance into that high kingdom. I pray in Jesus name.
