Title: Submit to His Hands (Genesis 16:9)
Contents: Abraham's wife's name was Sarah, and she had a maidservant, an Egyptian, and her name was Hagar. The lesson is that a servant is under the control of his master, so it is proper to obey him.
1. The reason for the appearance of the angel of the Lord Abraham's wife Sarah could not produce any fruit, so she could not wait for God's blessing. Out of human impatience, she gave Hagar his maidservant Hagar to her husband as a concubine, and advised her husband to have children from him. He also agreed to this, and Abraham slept with Hagar, and Hagar eventually conceived.
The servant Hagar, who was conceived, began to despise her mistress. Sarah, who was also a human being, stirred up her husband with jealousy and jealousy, and obtained her permission and mistreated Hagar. While I was near the spring, an angel of the Lord appeared and exhorted me.
"Go back to your mistress and submit to her subordinates," he said.
2. The principle of a servant is to obey.
Obviously Sarah is the mistress. In response to the angel of the Lord, Hagar herself said, "I am fleeing from my mistress Sarah," and according to this, the angel of the Lord said, "Return to your mistress and submit to her subordinate."
Hagar is always a slave girl. The word “maidservant” is mentioned several times in this chapter (1,2,3,5,6,8), and the angel of the Lord also met him for the first time and called him, “Sarah’s maidservant Hagar.
Also, it was her fault that she was too hasty to despise the mistress because she knew that she would be monopolized by her husband's love just because she was pregnant.
The mistress Sarah had originally recommended the maidservant as a concubine to her husband with a good intention, but Hagar was ungrateful.
No matter how reckless she was, Hagar could not resist the commanding counsel of God's messenger and had no choice but to obey.
Conclusion: Hagar obeyed the angel's instructions and returned to her mistress and lived in obedience. Obedience or obedience seems humiliating, but in reality, it is a good thing to take on one's responsibility, and consequently self-interest. When we obey the Word and live, we can enjoy true freedom in the arms of the Lord.
