Subject: Suffering is Good
Main text: Ps. 119:65-72 -------------------------------------Lord's Day(29) July 19, 2009.
Today I want to ask you guys.
why are you Do you think you are having a hard time?
You will give your own reasoned answer.
If we summarize the reason, it is “I have no problem, it’s because of you!”
Many people realize that their suffering started with their own wrong actions.
I try not to admit it.
blame others. Blame the parents. Sometimes I blame my wife or husband. Blame the environment.
The writer of this psalm speaks very clearly the reason for suffering.
(67) It is said, “Because I have done wrong.”
Can you guys agree?
Those who consent will benefit from suffering.
1. It gives enlightenment.
Suffering is like a hammer that crushes our pride.
Therefore, those who have suffered are humbled.
It is to realize the omnipotence, omnipotence, and grace of protecting and caring for God.
Through suffering, we look back on our own lives and realize new facts.
2. It gives you boldness.
(69) “The proud have lied against me, but I will keep Your precepts with all my heart.”
There are people who try to overcome evil with good, but cannot control their emotional anger.
However, mature saints must be able to be strong even in hardships and storms.
Suffering is like a furnace to purify the saints.
July 18, 1989,
Paraplegic Mark Wellman, 29, conquered the rugged California rocky mountain El Capitan (3,200 feet, 976 m).
Climber friend Mike Corbett helped him climb.
If you hang a rope on the rock wall, you can climb only with the power of your arms.
He could lift himself 6 inches (15 cm) at a time.
The tremendous effort of pulling the rope about 6,500 times continued until he reached the summit over nine days.
And that was accomplished in the heat of 90 degrees Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius).
Mark Wellman fell off a rock while climbing in 1982, completely paralyzing his lower back. But he didn't give up.
I trained for 6 months for this El Capitan conquest, and I finally succeeded.
He said:
“You only need to climb six inches at a time. (6 inches at time)”
Of course, there was an effort to continue this ‘once’ 6,500 times, but even if there was a handicap, the determination and courage to start first and achieve at least 6 inches led to the victory.
Wellman says again.
“If you have a dream, it will only come true if you put it into practice.
Don’t sit still, go ahead and get going.”
Rather, suffering makes us bold.
Planning, training, and doing things that paraplegics can't even imagine
Screaming "6 inches at time" and marching boldly, as if reaching a steep mountain,
Let us cry too. “It starts now!” (Let’s follow along)
Don't sit still, go boldly and get started!
3. Give thanks.
Suffering is what makes the saints mature.
A person who has not gone through hardship is like a young child.
Isn't there a saying that "you become more mature as much as it hurts"?
Isn't there a saying that "suffering can be bought"?
The confessor in the text (70) “I delight in Your law.”
(71) “It is good for me to be afflicted”
(72) It is said, “It is more noble than a thousand thousand gold and silver.”
Suffering eventually made him strong.
Called the 'Poet of the Piano', Chopin was quite an unfortunate man.
He suffered from severe pulmonary tuberculosis and always lived in the shadow of death.
He left his native Poland and lived a lonely life in Paris.
One time there was a party, and when friends entered Chopin, they turned off the lights to surprise him.
They wore furoshiki like ghosts and groaned.
Chopin sat silently at the piano and improvised the mood of the room.
This song is the famous 'March Song'.
It showed that beautiful music can be created in any environment.
For Chopin, hardship provided an opportunity to create beautiful music.
What kind of work are you planning to create through the hardships you have?
Do you want to make great works through hardship?
If so, start now!
Once you have a plan, put it into action!
If you start walking on one foot, you can make great works of art.
"I Can do it!" What is It? God has a plan for each of you. It is a plan for our prestigious church.
Dear saints, “Yes! Let's shout "I can do it".
“Yes! you can do it”
I hope that you will be all of us who can give thanks to God, saying, “Suffering is good.”
conclusion
Suffering gives us enlightenment.
Suffering gives us courage.
Suffering makes us grateful.
