Title: Teach us how short our life is
Content Why did our ancestors call the first day of the new year Lunar New Year?
According to columnist Lee Kyu-tae, it was called the Lunar New Year because it was a 'sorrowful day'. Perhaps there was the sadness that came from the emptiness of increasing age, and there was also the sadness of sharing the sorrow of this people who had to live in hardship and adversity. I cry when I think of my lost family, and it is sad that I cannot feed or dress my children in a poor life.
The text is a poem of Moses, and the only one recorded in the Psalms is 90 to gain the wisdom of life.
Why do people ask their age? Because man lives under the sun. Age is the annual ring of life centered on the sun. One year is when the Earth revolves around the sun. Because people live by looking at the sun, there is age and death. But God has no age. God is eternal, and He is the Alpha and Omega. Therefore, Christians who have become children of God (John 1:12) live in the grace of God and in Christ. Because we live in Christ, who is the true life and the true light, we have received eternal salvation. But counting the ages is for gaining wisdom. Psalm 90 contrasts God's eternity with his short life and weakness.
As Immanuel Kant says, “A human being is always challenged and answered by three questions throughout his life.”
First, what can we know?
It is a challenge to knowledge. There are many people in the world who need to know what they need to know, but are wrong because they know what they should not know. The best knowledge is the knowledge of God the Creator and Jesus Christ.
Second, what to do?
It's a strong moral challenge. It is a matter of obeying God's Word. It is to be a person who keeps the commandments and does them. “You can do it. Because you can do it. Because you should do it.”
What else are you hoping for?
It is a challenge to see and live. Whether it has future and eternal value. Our eternal hope is in the Lord.
First, everyone should know that they have to go back.
Man is a creature of God. “For the Lord has turned men to dust, and said, Return, ye men” (Psalm 90:3). Life must go back. What comes from dust must return to dust (Genesis 3:17-19). This is a declaration against sinful man. Who will escape the wrath of the Lord before the judgment seat of God? Nobody!! No one. There is only salvation in Jesus Christ (John 3:16). We need the best life in faith.
Second, we must live according to the will of the Lord.
Life is short. “A thousand years are like yesterday in your sight, and only a watch in the night.
… All our days pass by in Your wrath, Our whole days are spent in one eclipse. Our years are 70 years, and if we are strong we are 80 years old, but the pride of our years is our toil and sorrow; it goes quickly, and we fly away” (verses 4-10). Before the night of your life comes, remember the Creator and pay close attention to what you do, not as unwise, but as wise, saving time. The times are evil” (Ephesians 5:16-17). “The times are evil” means that the day of judgment is near. It teaches us to live according to the truth in the Word.
Third, we must put our hope in the Lord.
The Lord God has been our dwelling place from generation to generation, and He is the Lord God from eternity to eternity (verses 1-2). The older you get, the closer you are to God. Paul confesses that the outward man perishes, but the inward man is renewed day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). It also says that this is to build a good foundation for yourself in the future, so that you can take the real life (1 Timothy 6:17-19).
