Teach with confidence (2 Timothy 3:14-17)
Sunday School Childhood of the Gosin General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea. Do any saints know the primary education goals? There are six goals.
①Know God (here God refers to the Triune God) ②Go to church well ③Read the Bible diligently ④Be obedient to parents, be kind to brothers and sisters ⑤Love your neighbor and evangelize ⑥Nature that God has given you Teach them to know and love children.
All members of the church should think carefully about this at least once and become parents who pray for nurturing their children. It is truly foolish to think that I need to educate myself unconditionally, and that the Sunday School teacher who is in charge of my child will also teach me. Moreover, teachers should teach children with a clearer understanding of this goal than anyone else.
Let's follow this together once again in the sense that we will deeply engrave this goal once again. ①Know God (here God refers to the Triune God) ②Go to church well ③Read the Bible diligently ④Be obedient to parents, be kind to brothers and sisters ⑤Love your neighbor and evangelize ⑥Nature that God has given you Teach them to know and love children.
So what do teachers who are on a mission to educate these children need? In fact, many things can be mentioned, but the most important thing is the issue of 'confidence'. So Paul tells Timothy, "But abide in the things you have learned and have been convinced of." You have already learned, so do not leave the place where you are confident in what you have learned. It is a story about living in a place of certainty.
What would a person who is unsure about doing something do it right? will it be alright? could it be It won't! whoever does it can't achieve anything. Therefore, the attitude of mind that is truly necessary for a teacher is 'confidence'. You have to teach with confidence. Only then will you be able to fulfill your mission as a teacher.
So, with what confidence should teachers teach children?
1. You must have a clear conviction in your faith.
When you think, 'Ah, at least all teachers are sure of salvation, right? How can a person without faith try to be a teacher?' would think But in my experience, I have seen many teachers work painfully, literally, without faith.
The first time I met such a teacher was at my mother church. One day, a teacher came to me as a senior of faith. 'Sir, even though I am a teacher, I am not sure of salvation. I can't believe that Jesus saved me. The Bible feels like only one story. So I guess I'll have to quit teaching now.'
After that, even when I was in a church in Daegu, one of the teachers I trusted said that one day, 'I can't be a teacher because of my remorse'. 'A remorse of conscience?' 'Yes. Actually, I don't believe it. Even though I went to church, I went out with my friends and seemed to be zealous, so I worked hard at church, but it turned out that I did it for fun, not because of my faith.' Wow, how surprised
Today, we believe that all of our Sunday School teachers have the assurance of salvation.
Then why should spiritual teachers have confidence in their faith? ㉠ because those who have life can teach life. This is because a person who is born again spiritually and has a good faith can raise other believers. said one young man. 'Is confidence in your faith important? All you need is a talent to teach well.' 'Yes? It would be great if such a person went to a social school instead of a church school to teach.' Without spiritual life, I cannot be a spiritual teacher.
㉡ Furthermore, there is another reason that a person cannot become a spiritual teacher unless he or she has spiritual faith. Because it does not explain spiritual things to children. When consulting with young children, there are some questions they often ask. 'Please explain God's love once' 'If you have the assurance of salvation, your heart is really happy. The teacher also felt that joy. Please tell me about that joy.”
How can a person who does not know God's love or the joy of salvation raise children spiritually? How can you properly explain to children such deep truths about what life is like?
A 7-year-old missionary child asked this question when I was working as a woodworker at a missionary in Gaegeum, Busan. Her name was Park Sang-ah. 'Do you know how much God loves me?' 'No, I don't know' 'Ah, you don't know that? God loves me more than my mom buys me a cake on my birthday.' Can he understand children of faith with such a simple idea?
㉢This is because teachers without spiritual faith will eventually have to give up because they do not have the spiritual power that God provides. Those who do not have spiritual faith will eventually say that they cannot do it with their mouths. This is not to say that I see people who quit teaching because they are tired or for other reasons. Those who do not have spiritual faith are saying that one day they will stop because they do not receive the power and river of living water from God.
D. L. Moody, as you know, was a shoemaker. So, is there any education? What special talents do you have? there was no Still, after meeting Jesus, he wanted to become a teacher and died. One day, he went to his Sunday school tutor and said earnestly that he wanted to be a teacher. The tutor saw him and saw him as a shoemaker too. So I thought to myself what this ignorant man could do, but his request was so serious that he appointed Moody as his teacher. There was only one condition. Appointed as a teacher, but could not give any existing children. He said he wouldn't be able to have a child. If you want to teach as a teacher, you have to evangelize and teach children. How happy Moody was with this permission. From the following week, Moody's classes began to gather children one by one, and later taught more than 50 children. He eventually assumed the role of director of over 3,000 Sunday Schools.
He said this. To become a teacher of spiritual life, first of all, you must have confidence in your faith. Teachers, I hope you will teach your children with confidence in your faith.
2. You must have confidence in your calling as a teacher.
It is really painful to be a teacher even with the problem of one's own faith. But working without a calling is even more painful. Sometimes teachers also ask themselves a question. 'Did God really make me a teacher?' If an answer to this question is not found, it will be a truly painful ministry.
All of one's inability and inadequacy are related to calling. 'I'm so incompetent because God didn't call me to be a teacher. The reason I'm lacking, the reason I'm not good at work is because God didn't make me a teacher.'
I can understand people who say they can't be teachers. how painful would it be? Everyone else is doing well and growing the class, but I'm not so good at it, so it's really hard to see.
On the other hand, when I have confidence that God has appointed me as a teacher, many benefits follow.
㉠ First comes the pleasure. This is not to say that I do a good job as a teacher or not. I am glad that God has given me such an opportunity. Furthermore, I am very happy to be able to teach.
㉡ cherish one's mission One day at Peniel Church, an award was given to those who worked hard as teachers for several years in a row. What was surprising was the fact that there were quite a few teachers for 34 years in a row and 20 years in a row. Some of them are already over 60 years old. Guys, during those years, they too must have been through a lot. How many ministers did you meet? Since you are a clergyman in an educational institution, even if you change the clergy every two years, wouldn't that mean you met more than 15 clergy? Still, continuing to do it really wouldn't be possible without a mission.
It is said that many people still do, but a few years ago, they came down from Seoul to teach children on Sundays. It is usually difficult to be honest. I cannot do that service without the conviction that God has called me.
How about John Wanamaker, the famous department store king and minister of America? What were the conditions under which you refused when the government asked you to take on the ministerial post, but eventually granted it? Didn't I say that I would assume the ministerial post if I let you work as a Sunday school teacher in my hometown rural church, no matter how urgent and important it is on Sunday?
㉢ Even if someone denies that I am my teacher, I will continue to work without a doubt.
㉣ Become a teacher who is not broken even in the face of hardship and persecution.
Therefore, we can conclude as follows. A teacher without a calling is like the building of Sampoong Department Store. Eventually, it will collapse in no time.
3. You must have confidence in teaching the Bible.
Today's Bible text emphasizes this very point. Paul wanted Timothy to be convinced of this. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, because the Bible perfects the man of God and perfects his life." Paul wanted Timothy to be convinced that teaching and preaching the Bible would bring about this effect, and he hoped that he would carry out his mission as a pastor.
The educational goal of the Gosin General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea was mentioned a while ago, and there is also an educational purpose.
ⓐ Let us know, love, and serve the Triune God (worshipful personality). ⓑ To understand, love, help, and share Christ with people who are the image of God (inhwa and cooperative personalities). ⓒ Recognize the significance of one's existence and special mission, and make them loyal to the work they are assigned to in their position (cultural personality). By cultivating these Christians, they combine the orthodoxy of the faith and the purity of life.
However, if there is a word attached to the very beginning of these words, it is "Teach the Bible". In other words, they know that unless they teach the Bible, they cannot bring about any spiritual education. The spirit of not learning the Bible is a big deal, but if there is a Sunday school that doesn't teach the Bible, it's really a big deal.
When I was in a church, a young teacher said, 'Now, let's make a more realistic study than the old-fashioned Bible teaching and the stories we heard and heard.' He's crazy.
Ladies and gentlemen, in order to make Christians who reach the goal and purpose of education that God desires, you must teach the Bible. A teacher who is convinced that no spiritual education can be expected without the Bible, a teacher who insists on teaching according to the Bible, such a teacher is a true teacher.
Why can't we expect anything if we don't teach the Bible? ㉮ Because only the Bible teaches wisdom that leads to salvation. ㉯ Only the Bible can inspire and move people and make them whole.
Teachers and believers, remember that teaching the Bible is a matter of life and death for Christian education. With this conviction that no Christian education can exist without the Bible, I hope that you will become teachers and believers who are passionate about teaching the Bible according to the Bible.
Today, I hope that you will become teachers and believers who lead children to the Lord with confidence in their faith, confidence in their calling as a teacher, and in teaching the Bible
