Title: Tears of Jesus (Luke 19:41-44)
Contents
Blood, sweat, and tears are the three most noble liquids that God has given to mankind. Blood is life. Blood is a symbol of courage. We create a new history by shedding blood. If you are prepared to shed your blood, a new history will surely be created. Sweat is a symbol of hard work. Sweat can bring valuable success. Tears are a symbol of sincerity and love. Where the river of tears flows, there is emotion and love and sharing occur. All the great things in life are crystals of human blood, sweat and tears. You can never achieve great things without shedding blood, sweat and tears. Sometimes you should be able to thank those who made you cry tears of blood. If I hadn't shed tears of blood at that time, it might not have caused such an amazing thing.
Tears of blood make a big decision. If you shed tears of blood, you will surely accomplish great things. Most of the big things cost the price of tears of blood.
The Lord shed blood, sweat, and tears to accomplish our salvation. If He had not shed blood, sweat, and tears, man's salvation would not have been accomplished.
Today, we are going to share the tears of Jesus and think about the tears we will shed.
In today's text, it is recorded that Jesus wept while looking at the city of Jerusalem. How many times did Jesus weep in his 33-year life? We cannot know because the answer is not found in the Bible. However, since Jesus was a human being, he must have shed tears at times like us, even when he grew up and became an adult. There are three verses in the Bible related to the tears of Jesus. You must have shed many tears during that period, let alone before your public life. Nevertheless, it is recorded only once in each of the Gospels of John and Luke, and indirectly once in the book of Hebrews.
The first record of Jesus weeping is in the Gospel of John, at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35). Lazarus, whom he loved, fell ill and died, and Jesus wept as he saw Lazarus' grieving sisters. And today's text is the second. He wept quietly at the tomb of Lazarus, but wept loudly here. The second weeping word recorded in today's text does not simply mean that the Lord couldn't hold back his tears and that tears flowed from His face. Rather, it means sighing, weeping, and crying out in pain.
The Jerusalem that Jesus looked at meant nothing but the center of human sins. The Lord wept before him.
As the Lord said in the text, “People who did not know what they should have known,” “People who did not see what they should have seen and were hidden.” As he looked at the city where these people lived, Jesus wept loudly. In a way, they were weeping in frustration.
The third is the book of Hebrews, in Hebrews 5:7 says, “While he was in the flesh, he offered up supplications and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his godliness.”
Jesus had leadership in tears. Looking at the life of Jesus, there are many moving facts, but in particular, you can find the leadership that is moved by the tears, “Jesus wept”.
Just because you don't cry doesn't mean you're strong.
The tears of Jesus in today's text are weeping for a city that didn't even think about his future, the rebellion that stubbornly insisted on his way, rejected his love, ignored his warnings and shamelessly demanded his grace. It was a weeping cry for the people of
We have a tendency to think negatively about tears unconditionally. So people shed tears. Maybe it's because I don't want to look weak. Especially for men, tears are viewed as something that should be moderated or prohibited. So I stop the tears. Have you ever come up with the saying 'A man should only cry three times in his life'? He says, 'Laughing brings good luck', encouraging laughter and trying to dry tears. But those who have experienced it know the exquisite catharsis behind tears. After you shed a lot of tears, you can feel the stiff muscles loosening up, the gloomy mind feeling refreshed, and the turbid soul clearing. It is a spiritual and physical remedy that is as strong as tears and laughter.
Therefore, we should not be ashamed to weep. When you are sad, in a crisis, or in a moment of heart-breaking emotion, you must shed the emotions that overwhelm you and shed tears like a river. He promised that those who sow with tears will surely reap the sheaf with joy.
There are many kinds of tears. Tears of emotion, tears of gratitude, tears of sorrow, tears of joy, tears of wrath, tears of penance, tears of pain, tears of loneliness, tears of compassion, tears of emotion, etc...
As Jesus looked forward to the destruction of Jerusalem, he shed tears of sorrow.
The Lord even rebuked the tearless people and the tearless generation by saying, "Even if you mourn, you do not beat your heart."
A saint must become a person of tears. There should always be tears of thanksgiving and emotion because of Christ. Spurgeon said, "With dry eyes you cannot enter heaven." It means that there must be many tears for the saints.
The tears of the saints are precious and blessed, but what kind of tears should we shed in particular?
First, there must be tears of repentance.
David said in Psalm 6:8, "Depart from me, all you who do evil; the LORD has heard my cry."
God is a God who hears the cries of the saints. God loves those who repent with tears, and He uses such people preciously.
Those who have been honorably used before God are not those who do not commit sins, but those who have thoroughly repented of their sins with tears.
People are busy making excuses for their transgressions and sins. rationalize it. Who is responsible for shifting the blame? Without tears of repentance, there is no change, no renewal, and no recovery.
George Mueller, famous for caring for and praying for orphans, confessed that he saw himself die one day while praying. I saw myself dying for my tastes and dying for my tastes, my personality, my rebukes and praises, and from then on, I confessed that I became completely obedient to God.
David had committed a terrible crime, but he was forgiven through thorough repentance, and a great work was unfolded.
Second, there must be tears of the joy of being saved.
Those who are in Christ Jesus weep over the thrill of salvation. If you have never shed emotional tears about your salvation, you cannot be considered to have experienced the "essence of faith" yet.
The apostle Paul was a man without blood or tears until he met Jesus and was saved. I believed in God, but never experienced tears of salvation. But since he met Jesus on the road to Damascus and was saved, these tears of emotion have dominated him throughout his life. Some theologians say that they "have an eye strain" because they cry so much. He later had to write a letter because of the snow.
The people who accomplished the greatest things through the Old and New Testaments were those who experienced tears of joy after being saved by God. And although the church has produced many martyrs during that time, all of those martyrs were people who had tears of joy after being saved. The church is being revived by accomplishing the work of God through those who do not dry up the tears of joy after being saved. We believe that God will be glorified through the saints who always have tears for the thrill of salvation and will perform wonderful and spiritual works.
Third, there must be tears of compassion and compassion for others.
Modern people live in absolute loneliness. What we really need in this age is tears to share our love and heart with. We Christians should have the leadership of crying together. There are people who are lonely and weeping in every church and at any time. They are heartbreaking and painful people, with rivers of tears. Those tears are sometimes visible, but usually they are shed in secret. By weeping together, he is already a leader and a good Christian. Just by shedding tears together, a channel for the gospel can be spread, and the door of the gospel can be opened.
Although he has already passed away, Professor Jang Young-hee called the tears she shed for others as 'the hidden gem in the heart'.
It's not right to have a view of life like that, you can eat what's mine and what's yours, but you have nothing to share and nothing to receive.
Jeremiah not only imprisoned himself in the yard of the demonstrators, imprisoned him in a crypt where no light enters, and put him in a deep dark pit from which he could not escape, but he loved the people who threatened him so much and prayed a prayer of tears pleading for mercy before God. . God heard this prayer and promised to bring the Israelites back from Babylon after 70 years. Jeremiah's tears and prayer brought the people back.
Calvin said, "Prayer and tears are our weapons." Hoover said, "A country with many praying believers is stronger than a country with an atomic bomb." The tears of Christians have the amazing power to move the heavenly throne.
A Christian should have tears of repentance, tears of the joy of being saved, and tears of compassion for others every day. The earnest prayer of tears is to evoke amazing work in individuals, families, society, the nation, and the church. We believe that the prayers of tears of the saints who love God and love their neighbors will bear fruit with answers and blessings.
