Title: Tears of Jesus / Matthew 26:36-39

Contents The Tears of Jesus / Matthew 26:36-39

Why did Jesus weep over the fact that Jesus, the Son of God, came as our Savior and wept and wept during the 3 years and 6 months of shared life? Why did you have to weep? I am looking for the will of the Lord who shed tears.

He wept in front of the tomb of Lazarus and wept while looking at the city of Jerusalem. The Lord, who is at the right hand of God and watches over us, is deeply saddened and weeps when he sees us still being ruled by sin and in a state of spiritual death, and we are moving towards death.

When the Lord, who was heading towards the city of Jerusalem in the welcome of many people, came near the city, he looked at the city and wept aloud. Matthew 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times have I sought to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her young under her wings, but you were not willing” (Luke 23:37). 13:34) "Oh, Jerusalem! Jerusalem! The city that killed the prophets, the city that stoned those sent by God to help you, how many times I have sought to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings! But you did not respond."

The Lord wept as he watched the chicks not come into the mother chicken's bosom but rather betrayed and the chicks tried to kill the mother chicken. He wept over the city that was about to fall, leaving no stone on top of it because of their sins. Not a single stone is left on top of each other, and he wept as he watched Israel be scattered.

The Lord knows that if we reject God's providence to protect us and go into the world according to our own will, we will fail. He knows in advance that we will suffer because of our failure and is saddened.

Today, in the Garden of Gethsemane, we must receive God's grace from the sorrow of the Lord who wept with intense weeping and tears. If you look at the words given to us today, it is recorded that Jesus was very sad on the way to the Garden of Gethsemane to offer a prayer of determination, facing death.

In :37, when he was going with Peter and Zebedee's two sons, he said, 'I was troubled and grieved.' The word 'agonized' here is 'Ademdoneo' (6), which means 'full of trouble and sorrow'. And the word 'sad' is 'Lupo ( )', which means 'to make me grieve. It's very sad." This word refers to sadness, sorrow, in which the pain in the body or mind is very deep.

Why was he so troubled and deeply grieved from the heart and repeated the same prayer three times?

We can find the answer in Hebrews 5:7-10.

(Hebrews 5:7) And while he was in the flesh he offered up supplications and supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence (Hebrews 5:8). By suffering he learned obedience (Hebrews 5:9), and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him (Hebrews 5:10), and was called by God high priest in the order of Melchizedek."

Jesus, while on earth as a human, offered prayers and supplications with loud outcries and many tears to the One who could save him from death. God saw the fear of Jesus and granted his prayer. Because of his reverence, God granted his supplications. Although he is a son, he learned obedience by suffering. And after becoming perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, and was ordained of God as high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

1. Because He was in the flesh.

Jesus said that when he was on this earth, he was a human being with a body just like ours, so he had to pray with intense weeping and tears because he was agonizing over his tragic and tragic death, and sorrow welled up from the depths of his heart. .

Who wouldn't worry about his own death? Even if your own death is a glorious one, it is not easy to choose the path of death. Jesus' death is a cursed death that takes away the sins of all mankind. It was so painful and miserable that death paid the price for sin.

It wasn't just physical existence that caused the Lord to weep so much. He wept because he was made in the likeness of a sinner. Because he was made in the form of a sinner, he now bears the cross.

A human being with a sinful body must be able to weep. It is not a person who has sinned and does not have tears in his eyes. A person who has no regrets, repentance, and remorse, has turned to stone. What can you expect from humans who, after killing people, keep their eyes wide open? Those who grumble even though they are criticized by everyone are scumbags. The hallmark of the stubborn man who lives in today's wicked world is that he does not know how to cry when he has sinned.

As long as we live in this world and remain physically, we cannot be without sorrow and tears. It is because we are sinners. According to the Word of God, there will be no tears when you go to heaven. It is said that God washes away the tears from our eyes. The Lord also shed so many tears and weeping, how can we dare expect a world without tears? Therefore, we should not wish for a world without tears, but we should have the courage to bear it well even if there are tears. The question is not how much we cried. The question is how much patience and self-denial through tears did you carry out your mission. We must weep upright and weep righteously.

2. He prayed with tears.

:39 And he went a little farther, and fell with his face to the ground, and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; but not as I will, but as you will.” I offered my supplications and wishes with intense weeping and tears…”

Jesus wept and offered a prayer of supplication and wish to complete the mission given to him. We are at a very important time for Jesus now. So he went up to the Garden of Gethsemane with the three disciples of Peter, John and James, whom he loved the most. It is because we have come to an important point where we have to finish everything we have worked for as the Messiah so far. Do you drink or not drink from the cup that is set before you? Do you obey God's will? do you rebel? Are you successfully accomplishing your mission? There was an important question of failure, so I had to pray with tears in my eyes. Why? This is because the cup you have to drink in order to fulfill your mission is too much of a pain. Father, do I have to drink that cup? Can't you let me pass? pass me by? But not as I will, but as you will.

When do we weep in prayer? Weep when we repent of our sins. When I am in a difficult situation, I cry and pray. However, in the truly noble prayer of tears, you must know how to pray with tears in front of the mission God has given you.

The tears of the patriots who leave their families and hometowns and go far away to Manchuria for the sake of the country and people are precious tears. The tears that a couple quarrels and sheds are not worth anything. The tears of those who have given their lives for the work of God are valuable tears. Tears asking for something are the tears of children.

The tears we shed because we are worried about the future of our country and people are the tears of a patriot. The tears we shed when we are ready to die for God's work are the tears of Jesus and the tears of God's servants.

3. Tears of an oath to obey God.

When the Lord is dedicating himself to fulfilling the Father's will, it is not unfair to cry. It's not a resistance that you can't handle. Tears of an oath to obey God's will.

The writer of Hebrews put it this way: Hebrews 5:8-10 “Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered, and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, and was called by God high priest in the order of Melchizedek.”

It is said that even the thugs shed tears and blood while swearing their allegiance in front of the boss. Even communists shed sweat, tears and blood for their ideology. How much more can we only think of our own interests when we are saved by God's grace and received God's calling? There will be oaths of tears and loyalty with blood.

He said, "He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, and was called by God as a high priest in the order of Melchizedek."

In order to fulfill God's will and fulfill the mission given to us, we had to go through the pain and suffering of giving up our own life, so we had to pray with tears. Jesus prayed for the completion of the mission given to him.

These are very precious tears. People rarely cry like this. Tears shed to obey God's Word----- These are the tears of determination to lay down one's life for God's will.

When do you and I cry and when do we weep? Have you ever experienced something embarrassing? When have you been despised? Was it when the husbands became upset? Is it time for your child to rot inside? Is it time to say goodbye to your loved one? Were you crying because there was nothing to eat and it was hard to live? Have you wept over my sins? Have you wept over the fact that my sins caused Jesus to suffer?

In order to fulfill the mission given to me, have you prayed to God with mourning, supplication, and prayer?

The Lord who shed tears for us is pleased with our tears. Our tears of prayer have the power to move the throne of God. It has the power to overcome sin. We have the power to complete the mission given to us.

Revelation 21:3 "I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and God dwells with them, and they shall be God's people, and God Himself will be with them. He will wipe away the tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death; there will be no more mourning or crying or pain, for the first things have passed away."
