Title: Temporary Gifts

Content br> Temporary gifts are the gift of apostles, the gift of prophecy, the gift of working miracles, the gift of healing, the gift of tongues, the gift of interpretation in tongues, the gift of discernment of spirits, and the gift of knowledge.

First, let’s look at what these gifts are, their meaning, content, and characteristics, and find out why these gifts are deprecated and should not be used, that is, why these gifts are no longer bestowed by the Holy Spirit. Let's see.

First, it is the gift of an apostle.

“Apostle” is “Apostolos” in the original New Testament. It literally means “representative”, “messenger”, “one sent by command.”

This word is used 75 times in 19 of the 27 books of the New Testament. The first time the word is used in the New Testament is when Jesus sends 12 men to testify of the impending kingdom of heaven.

“These are the names of the twelve apostles: Simon, who is called Peter, his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector, James the son of Alphaeus and Thaddeus, Simon the Canaanite, And Judas Iscariot, the one who sold Jesus, sent these twelve out, and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, nor into any city of the Samaritans, but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Heal the dead, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you received, freely give” (Matthew 10:2-8).

According to these words, the apostles are primarily the 12 disciples that Jesus himself raised up, and in addition to Paul (Romans 1:1), Barnabas (Romans 14:14), and Matthias who became apostles instead of Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:25-26) , or James, the brother of the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:7, Gal 1:19), is a person who has received the gift of an apostle.

Characteristics of those who have received the gift of the apostles

(1) A person who was directly chosen as an apostle by Jesus Himself, or an example of the resurrection

A person chosen by the Lord or the Holy Spirit.

“And he went up to the mountain and called those he wanted, and he came to him, and he appointed twelve to be with him, and sent them out to preach” (Mark 3:13-14).

“At that time, Jesus went to the mountain to pray, and he prayed all night to God, and at dawn he called his disciples and chose twelve of them and called them apostles” (Luke 6:12-13).

“We must appoint one of those who have always been with us, that he may be a witness with us to the resurrection of Jesus” (Acts 1:22).

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, was called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God” (Romans 1:1).

(2) The apostle was able to perform miracles and wonders, the miraculous gifts that Jesus Himself gave.

These are the people who have been given power.

“Jesus called the twelve disciples and gave them power to cast out unclean spirits and to heal all diseases and infirmities” (Matthew 10:1).

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8).

“Then he appointed the twelve to be with him, and to send them out to preach and to have authority to cast out demons” (Mark 3:14-15).

“Silver and gold I do not have,” Peter said, “I do not have silver and gold, but what I have I give you, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” He took his right hand and got him up. They were walking and jumping and praising God, and when all the people saw him walking and praising God, they knew that he was the one who used to sit begging at the beautiful gate of the temple. 10)

“Even carrying the sick people into the street, they laid them down on beds and mattresses, hoping that as Peter passed by, even the shadows would cover him, a great crowd gathered around Jerusalem and brought sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed. ” (Acts 5:15-16)

“While we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl possessed by a divination demon, who made her masters understandable by divination. They followed Paul and us and shouted, “These are the servants of the Most High God, who are preaching to you the way of salvation. And after these many days, Paul became very distressed and turned and said to the demon, In the name of Jesus Christ, I command you to come out of him.” (Acts 16:16-18)

“Boblio’s father was lying down with a fever and dysentery, and Paul went in and prayed, and put his hands on him and healed him. So other sick people from the island came and were healed” (Acts 28:8-9)

(3) To testify of the kingdom of heaven and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, they

They are directly selected from

“As they went, they preached, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Acts 10:7).

“We must appoint one of those who have always been with us, that he may be a witness with us to the resurrection of Jesus” (Acts 1:22).

(4) These are the men who will rule over the twelve tribes of Israel in the kingdom of Jesus.

They are chosen by Jesus.

“I have also entrusted you with the kingdom as my Father has entrusted it to me, so that you may be in my kingdom, eating and drinking at my table, or sitting on thrones ruling over the twelve tribes of Israel” (Luke 22:29-30).

(5) The apostles were the people who would build the first church of Jesus and become the pillars.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42)

The spiritual superiority of the apostolic gift is described in 1 Corinthians 12:28.

“God has appointed some in the church, the first being apostles”

Second, the gift of prophecy.

The gift of prophecy is revealed in Romans 12:6, 1 Corinthians 12:10, 1 Corinthians 14:1․3-6, Ephesians 4:11. Prophecy refers to the special ability to tell what will happen in the future. Prophecy in the Bible is what God Himself spoke and heard, or what God Himself showed and saw and knew, or what the Holy Spirit made known to him, he spoke on behalf of God. It is literally speaking.

Therefore, the gift of prophecy is directly related to the biblical record.

“Know this first, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of any private interpretation, for no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:20-21).

“Blessed are those who read and hear the words of this prophecy, and those who keep what is written in them, for the time is near” (Revelation 1:3).

Also, in a fragmentary way, it was used to foretell the future in order to show God's power at the time when he gave the gift of prophecy.

“One of them stood up, named Agabus, and said by the Holy Spirit, “There will be great famines throughout the world.” (Acts 11:28)

“He had four daughters, who prophesied as virgins, and after many days a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea and came to us, took Paul’s belt, and bound his hands and feet, saying, ‘Thus says the Holy Spirit: “I will bind the owner of this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.” When we heard this, we and the people there persuaded Paul not to go up to Jerusalem” (Acts 21:9-12).

So the prophet

(1) The message that God intends to make known through a specific method of God’s revelation,

You must receive the Word of God.

(2) The prophet must convey the message he received,

(3) The prophet's prophecies must be fulfilled 100% and completely at some point in the future.

In other words, the prophecies of a prophet must not be the words of one's own thoughts, wills, imaginations, or feelings. The prophet's prophecies must be delivered as God's will in any case. The prophet's prophecies must not be in error. This is true of any kind of prophecy.

Third, it is a gift that works.

The gift of performing powers is the gift of doing something supernatural with the power of the Holy Spirit, which transcends the natural order and realm.

For example, it is the gift of casting out demons, drinking poison, but not dying, being bitten by a viper, but not harmed, laying the hands on one's hands to speak in tongues and prophesying, and to bring the dead back to life.

In the New Testament, those who received this gift did this.

“And these signs shall follow those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” (Mark) 16:17-18)

“When Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied” (Acts 19:6).

Fourth, the gift of healing.

The gift of healing is the gift of healing physical diseases with the power of God. The gift of healing is the gift of curing physical diseases, especially incurable diseases in the days of the apostles, such as blindness, leprosy, hemorrhagic disease, paralysis, lameness, blight, and diseases that have been afflicted for thirty-eight years. The gift of healing is psychological. mental. He also cured demonic diseases, and was completely cured by the power of God without relying on human medical techniques.

Healing in the New Testament

(1) He fixed all who he wanted to fix without making a mistake;

(2) Only one prayer or word when trying to heal. immediately fixed by action,

(3) There was no recurrence of the cured disease;

(4) The diseases healed were not simple diseases, but serious diseases;

(5) There were several clear witnesses of the healed man before and after he was healed;

(6) He raised even the dead,

(7) was done publicly;

(8) Those who were healed believed in Jesus and praised the glory of God.

“At the ninth hour of prayer, Peter and John were going up to the temple, and people carrying a man who was born lame was placed daily at the gate of the temple called the Beautiful Gate to beg from those who entered the temple, who Peter and John were going to enter. and begging for it, Peter looked at him with John and said, "Look at us." And he looked to see what they might get from them. But Peter said to him, "Silver and gold I have none, but what I have I give you.
