Title: Thanksgiving of David / Psalm 30:1-5
Content David's thanks
▨ Psalm 30:1-5 ▧
A Jewish proverb says, "Who is the wisest man in the world? He is always learning from everyone. Who is the strongest man in this world? He who overcomes himself. Who is the richest man in the world? A person is satisfied with what he has. We can be unhappy with what we have. Also, we can be happy even when we do not have. The key to it is gratitude. Gratitude is the highest form of faith in the believers
The main character of today's text is David. David is one of the greatest believers in the Old Testament. Through the text, we want to see how David was thankful and share his grace.
1. I thanked the Lord for leading me.
Verse 1 says, “I exalt you, O LORD, because you have brought me out so that my adversary will not rejoice over me.”
Psalm 30 gives thanks for David being healed from a serious illness. David is grateful to God as he recalls the past.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Jesus Christ, "Everything" means to be grateful for everything. Whether good or bad, successful or unsuccessful, healthy or ill, good or bad, all of our lives are something to be thankful for.
Gospel Song: Give thanks, my soul, give thanks, my soul
Give thanks to all that is in me.
Dear saints, Gratitude is the greatest sign of faith maturity. <Augustine> said 1 Corinthians 13:13, "Therefore, faith, hope, and love these three will always exist." If he had to add one more thing to him, it would be gratitude.
Verse 3 says, “O LORD, you brought my soul out of Hades and gave me life, so that I should not go down to the grave.” By “drawing out of Hades” we mean God's raising from a hopeless, near-death state.
In 2 Samuel 24, David took a census and was rebuked by God, and 70,000 people died of the plague. King David was probably nearly dead at this time, commentators say. In what crisis have I been resolved? Like King David, I pray that you will thank God for saving you from various crises in the past.
2. I thanked God for the name.
Verse 4 says, “Praise be to the Lord, O thy saints, and give thanks to his holy name.”
God's name is Jehovah. “Jehovah” means the God who was, is, and will be, the Almighty God. Jehovah God means the God who perfectly protects us now. In other words, we should thank God for keeping our lives perfectly in the present. There is only one God who can completely protect us. So we must give thanks, praise, and glory to that God.
Song Myung-hee's poem 'I'
I don't have any wealth
I have no knowledge
I do not have the health that others have
I have what nobody else has
I saw what no one else saw
I have heard what no one else has heard
I received love that no one else had
I realized what others didn't know
A fair God, I do not have what others have
You made me have what no one else has
Song Myung-hee is a 37-year-old with cerebral palsy. He couldn't even lift his head straight once, and even developed a malignant neck disc. At birth, doctors say the baby's brain was accidentally touched. At that time, the family was very poor and could not afford a bottle of milk powder. My father was bedridden with tuberculosis. He even attempted suicide as a teenager. When I was 17, I decided to meet God once and die, and I started praying. I met God by risking my life and praying. I heard a voice saying that I will not forsake you. I finally found joy and gratitude. Although the cerebellum, the function of controlling the body, was lost, the cerebrum, the function of thinking and feeling, was blessed by God. So, even though I had never been to school, a cigar exploded. The first poem was 'I'. Now, I travel the world, testifying to God, and giving thanks.
3. I was grateful for the grace to come throughout my life.
Verse 5 says, “His wrath is temporary, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping lingers in the evening, but joy comes in the morning.”
When grace comes throughout your life, it means that God will protect your future. David thanked God for taking care of the future. We can be thankful that God takes responsibility for and protects the future of the saints.
Dear saints, God has been, is, and has a future to protect us. If we give thanks for the grace of the past, God will protect us in the present. If we give thanks for grace in the present, He will protect us in the future, and if we thank Him for protecting our future life, He will give us eternal thanks to Heaven.
Why was King David so great? Why did God use it loudly? It's three things. ① You have done well in repentance (so that the bed is wet). ② You did a good job of giving thanks (the central theme of the psalm). ③ It is because they gave glory to God (Psalm 150, etc.).
Verse 5 says, “His wrath is temporary, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping lingers in the evening, but joy comes in the morning.”
"Anger is temporary" means that God's bond is temporary. “The grace is for a lifetime” means that when you thank God, you protect the future for the rest of your life. "Crying in the evening" is that there are nights of pain. "Joy in the morning" is to solve our future and take responsibility for our future.
We should be grateful for the future of our people. As we celebrate the 55th anniversary of the 6.25 commemoration, there is a blessing from God. When you see inter-Korean reunification, tours to Mount Kumgang, and inter-Korean summits, unification is right in front of you.
According to foreign reports, the Korean church is changing to growth again after the IMF. In the 2000s, Korea will emerge as a world economic power. It will overtake Japan. There are only conditions of thanks before us.
conclusion
Dear saints, Matthew 28:20 says, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Our Lord has clearly promised. May you be grateful for the grace of the past. Thank you for watching now. I hope that you will also be grateful for your support in the future.
