The Prophet Habakkuk's Thanksgiving
I. The Prophet Habakkuk
First, the prophet Habakkuk was in very poor circumstances. Verse 16 begins with the words, “Because I have heard.” The prophet Habakkuk was active in the last days of Judea. These are the days of Josiah, Johoahaz, and King Jehoiakim. If the Egyptian army does not attack, the Babylonian army will attack in this unsettling time. The rumors are that an army of Chaldeans and Babylonians is coming soon. The kingdom of Judea will soon be destroyed. The prophet Habakkuk is in such an unstable and difficult situation.
Second, the prophet Habakkuk is in a very poor situation. As a result of the war, all the farmland was ruined and famine occurred. So there is nothing there. You fail in everything you do. It is a repetition of failures and failures. How desperate is this? However, the prophet Habakkuk was not discouraged even in these circumstances and in these extreme circumstances. Hearing rumors of war, he is anxious and famine is coming and there is no time right now. It is not about rejoicing and rejoicing because of what is in the world. It's not about being thankful for what you've got from God. Even in the absence of these things, I rejoice, rejoice, give thanks, and sing praises. This is the joy of the prophet Habakkuk.
Dear all! What are we rejoicing for? What are you rejoicing about? What are you thankful for? What is the title of our hymn today? I pray that the joy that overflowed in the heart of Prophet Habakkuk, the joy, the gratitude, the spiritual grace overflows in all of us today.
II. Thanksgiving from the Prophet Habakkuk
The Prophet Habakkuk was so insecure. Why do we rejoice and be thankful even in such a desperate situation? What made him lead such a grateful life?
First, I was thankful for Jehovah. Verse 18 says, “I rejoice in the Lord.” I rejoice and rejoice in the Lord. The good ( ) of the world, not because of the abundance of material Only by Jehovah. Who is Jehovah? Almighty God, most good, merciful and faithful God, everlasting God, blessed God. I am thankful that Jehovah God is my Father. Dear all! May you rejoice and rejoice in the greatness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness, immutability, and blessing of Jehovah God. I pray that you will become a saint who rejoices and gives thanks for being my father who loves me.
Second, thank you for being the God of salvation. Verse 18, “I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.” God saved me. You saved me from today's realistic misfortune. In order to save me, God Himself took flesh and became a man and came into this world. Jesus Christ died on the cross to save me. He saved me through the blood of the cross. He raised me from eternal death as a price for my sins. Dear all! I pray that you will become a saint who rejoices in receiving salvation through the grace of the Lord and gives thanks.
Third, I thanked God for being my strength. The world considers money, fame, power, knowledge, health, and children as strength. But the prophet Habakkuk said, “The Lord Jehovah God is my strength.” This Yahweh God says, “He will make my feet like deer, and he will make me walk on my high places.” It is saying that He will put you on the seat of victory, the seat of success. The final victory, the ultimate victory, the final victory is ours. Prophet Habakkuk believed that Jehovah God was my strength and made the ultimate victory the ultimate victory. So I was happy and thankful. Dear all! Prophet Habakkuk rejoiced and gave thanks even in difficult circumstances where he could not rejoice. It was not a relative joy of rejoicing because of some condition of this world. It was the absolute joy of rejoicing because of Jehovah God. We pray that that joy and that gratitude overflow in our hearts.
Dear all! We live in a world full of difficulties. How many hardships have you had this year? But to be grateful in a situation where you cannot be thankful is true gratitude. Dear all! In this November, this month of thanksgiving, I pray that the spiritual joy and spiritual gratitude that God gives us overflows in our hearts.
