Bible Text: Isaiah 9:2-7
amazing name
Introduction
If we read the Bible, we can see that there are many names of God appearing there. There are many different names for God, including Elohim, Jehovah, Adonai, and El Shaddai. The reason why God's name is so diverse is that no other name can express God. Therefore, the various names of God tell us each of His attributes. However, in today's text, many different names of God are introduced.
In particular, the text is the name of the Messiah prophesied through the prophet Isaiah about 700 years before Jesus came to this earth in the flesh. The prophet Isaiah introduces the five names of the Lord who will come to this earth on the first Christmas day, which are 'Wonderful', 'Counselor', 'Almighty God', 'Eternal Father' and 'Prince of Peace'. .
Therefore, I hope that on Christmas Day, we will hear the precious voice of his wonderful name, so that we can know and serve the Lord whom we trust and serve.
Main subject
1. The name of the Lord is ‘Wonderful One’.
The word 'wonderful' means 'wonderful'. In fact, there is no better description of Jesus Christ than the name of this “wonderful One.”
First of all, how amazing is his birth? He has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He was the son of the Most High. And he is the King of kings. No, he is God Himself. However, such a man “but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, and became like men, and when he was found in human form, he humbled himself” (Philippians 2:7) and was born in a stable. So how surprising is his birth itself.
Is it the loon case? He was also born of the Virgin Mary through the Holy Spirit. With the knowledge and wisdom of our lives, there is no way to understand the secret of his virgin birth. Also, how marvelous his life, teachings, and ministry are full of miracles and wonders (see Matthew 7:28-29, 13:54, 22:22; Mark 1:25-27, 7:31-37, etc.).
And, most crucially, how amazing is his death and resurrection on the cross? And His coming again will surprise all mankind even more. His birth, ministry, teaching, death, resurrection, ascension, second coming… When we think about all of this, we truly have nothing more to say than “His Name is Wonderful!” The One we worship at Christmas is the Wonderful, the Wonderful.
2. The name of the Lord is Mosiah.
The original meaning of the word 'counselor' is 'a person who solves problems well with amazing wisdom'. Therefore, the English Bible translated it as “Counselor”.
The book of Hebrews says that Jesus has experienced all our weaknesses (4:15). Jesus personally experienced all our weaknesses, pains, and sufferings, and He was tempted, and He knows all our circumstances. He knows the loneliness, pain, anxiety, and despair that neither my husband, nor my wife, nor my parents, nor my children understand. You know the pain of our people who are suffering like this today.
That is why He still tells us, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). “I will not leave you orphans” (John 14:18). . “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). A counselor who can understand, listen, and solve all the difficult problems that we cannot solve with anyone, the pain in our hearts, and the despair that permeates deep in our hearts! He is the Messiah, Jesus Christ, whom we worship today.
3. The name of the Lord is Almighty God.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of another name for Jesus, saying that he was 'Mighty God'. In other words, Jesus Christ is fundamentally equal to God (Philippians 2:6-7). That is why his work has always been full of amazing signs and wonders. He turned water into wine, fed five thousand people with five bottles, and calmed the stormy sea with his word. He opened the eyes of those who were blind from birth and healed those possessed by demons. He healed a woman who had been suffering from bleeding for twelve years, and even raised the dead. He lived with the dead daughter of the synagogue leader, Lazarus, who had already been smelling of decay in the tomb four days after he died, and his only son.
He had compassion on a widow in great sorrow and raised her son from the dead. And above all else, he broke the power of sin and death that came upon us all through Satan's temptation, rose from the dead and became the first fruits of resurrection, opening the way for us to salvation and eternal life. In the end, all these facts show that Jesus is the Almighty Creator God. His name is Almighty God.
4. The Lord is the Eternal Father.
The prophet Isaiah testifies that this Almighty God is our “Eternal Father.” It is very rare in the Old Testament to describe God as the Father. However, there is one very striking case of describing God as Father, and that is when we express God as our ‘Guardian’ and ‘Saviour’ (Ps.
89:26; Isa 63:16). And Isaiah says in today's text, "He is our everlasting Father." He is the one who loves us so much that he gives us everything he has. That is why he gave us his one and only Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16). And God demonstrates His love for us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
Therefore, the Messiah, He is our Eternal Father. We are welcoming and welcoming Jesus, the Father of true love, who came to die for us on this Blessed Christmas.
5. The name of the Lord is the Prince of Peace.
The most beautiful and most important thing that the Messiah accomplished when he came to this earth is ‘peace’. Indeed, 700 years after the prophecy of Isaiah, on the night of the birth of the baby Jesus, angels appeared and praised the birth of the baby Jesus, saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased.” (Luke 2:14). The Lord came to achieve reconciliation and to establish a right relationship between God and enemy humans (Ephesians 2:13). Not only that, but Jesus came to bring true peace in the hearts of each of us. When Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who has come today, is truly seated in our hearts, then all conflicts and divisions within us will disappear. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. things are not as the world gives” (John 14:27). When Jesus sits in our hearts, and the true peace he gives us begins to dwell in us, we can enjoy a true peace that the world does not know. He is indeed the Prince of Peace.
conclusion
The Jesus we are celebrating on this Blessed Christmas today is amazing.
He is the best counselor who listens to all our concerns and solves them.
He is the Almighty God who can solve any of our problems. He is the Eternal Father who gave His all for us. And he is the Messiah who came to bring true peace to the whole world in our hearts. Today we are praising and worshiping this wonderful Messiah, our Savior.
