Title: The Abrahamic Covenant
1. Almighty God made a covenant.
God appeared to Abraham. He spoke of the attributes of God. He revealed himself as Almighty God. God revealed Himself to Abraham. God appeared to Abraham to make a covenant with stomach cancer. God makes a covenant with Abraham as Almighty God. God is a covenant. Even if there are times when people do not remember, God will still remember. There were times when the people of Israel sinned and were rebuked by God. The deeper the reproof, the more punishment. To be punished by God is to repent for breaking destruction. And God turns to the prayers of those who remember God's covenant. He removes reproof and punishment and restores Israel.
2. It is a covenant made with people.
3. It is a covenant of prosperity and exaltation.
4. It is an eternal weakness.
This covenant did not apply only to Abraham personally. It also applies to the descendants of Abraham. The word descendant appears twice in the text. Because of Abraham, descendants will also be blessed. He will remember the descendants of God who remembered Abraham. God will bless the descendants of the God who blessed Abraham. The God who spoke to Abraham will continue to speak to his descendants. God became the God of Abraham. And he is the God of descendants. He gave the land of Canaan to Abraham and passed it on to his descendants. Canaan shall be a people of Israel” (Jeremiah 311). Ezekiel heard the words of the covenant remembrance: “My dwelling place shall be among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (Ezekiel 37:27). God's promise to make it an everlasting covenant has been fulfilled. The eternal covenant also applies to us. We who became Abraham's descendants are God's people.
