I. Text Commentary
Psalm 119 is believed to be a poem of David, and the exact time when Psalm 119 was written is not known, but it can be assumed that it was written after David became king, went through all the storms of his life, and received God's great love and comfort. ‘Guest’ means ‘stranger’, but why is David sitting on the throne calling himself a stranger? He recognizes the eternal value of heaven, not the status and knowledge of this world, and realizes and confesses that our duty is in heaven. The saints are not beings who live on this earth but are attached to this earth, but are beings who are called to go to heaven. The saints have another destination in life to go to, and no matter how tidal and rough the sea they have to cross, they must pass through. Although everyone in this world is a stranger, few people know that they are a stranger. The latter people know that their final destination is not in this world, and they are not ashamed to be called sojourners on this earth. Because I'm looking for a better home...
An urgent problem for the strangers is the loneliness of the traveler, and another is to reach their destination quickly and safely. David confesses that not everything he will enjoy as a king will soothe his loneliness. It was because the loneliness toward eternity was engulfed in him. The value of faith is not in finding and enjoying happiness in this world, but in teaching us that this life is a journey to find our homeland, teaching us how to live as a stranger, and providing resources. It is clear that the path of a stranger's life is hard and dark. However, God gives two lights to illuminate the way ahead until the traveler reaches his destination.
II. Two Lights for Man
A. Derivative Light: Intelligence
Christians need dignity. Dignity, valued more than others, is the inner power that causes others to bow their heads voluntarily toward them. The true dignity of a Christian comes from intellectual character. Intellectual dignity is made up of knowledge and wisdom, and within the intellectual dignity comes a dignified life of being a sage. Knowledge is a lesson about how to live, knowing the rules of what to believe. Wisdom is the ability to judge right from wrong using knowledge. God has given us light to live an intellect and awake life by possessing knowledge and wisdom. All humans are precious to God, but not all humans are equally valuable. Because he is valued by God according to his goodness. The most important function that makes us a good person despite the sufferings of this world is the intellect. We must teach them to know clearly what is good and what is wrong from an early age. In this way, the child develops the wisdom to discern what is good and what is bad.
B. Primal Light: Truth
Ⅲ. How the Truth Beautifies the Soul
A. Intelligence: Giving light
When the truth holds the soul, the soul is filled with grace, and the intellect shines through it. is going to be brilliant
B. Love: Arouses love
Self-love disappears, and Ji-soon's love for God becomes full. Because it sees all things through the eyes of love for God, the intellect helps us to judge accurately.
C. Righteousness: Bringing out good will
Grace empowers the will to do what it could not do. You have always succumbed to certain temptations, but after receiving grace, you will be able to resist with the power of your will. In this way, grace leads to a good will. Beauty is doing according to one's original function, and the beauty of human beings is living in conformity with God's plan at the time of creation. Our souls help us get back to our place. The soul possessed by the truth gives light to the intellect, brings love to love, and brings out good will to the will so that they can live a beautiful life before God.
IV. Be gracious to God's Word
In order to be restored to a beautiful being, we must go through the channel of God's Word. Because this is the only way and the way. Only in the beautiful state of the soul is there the blessing of enjoying this peace. When you constantly receive grace from God's Word, beauty is maintained. You must cultivate your soul with a focused mind. Reflect on whether I personally love the Word of God deeply or if I am searching for it with earnest longing. Let's not love, hate, or worry too much about things that will disappear after a while. I hope that you will become saints who walk through the journey with faith, holding on to the unchanging truth of God and relying deeply on the faithful God. 2005-12-11
