Old Testament
1. And when Ehud died, the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD.
2. The LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor, and the commander of his army was Sisera, who dwelt in Haroseth-haggoim 3. King Jabin had nine hundred iron chariots, and he mistreated the children of Israel terribly for twenty years. The children cried out to the LORD.
4. At that time Deborah the prophetess, the wife of Rabphidoth, judged Israel.
5. He dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel came to him for judgment.
6. Deborah sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the LORD, the God of Israel, command this way?
7. I will bring Sisera, captain of Jabin's army, and his chariots, and his company, to the river Kishon to you, and I will deliver him into your hand.
new testament
14. It is like a man who goes to a foreign country and calls his servants to entrust his possessions.
15. They each gave one man five talents of gold, the other two talents, and the other one talent, according to their talents.
16. The one who received the five talents went right away and traded with them, leaving five more talents.
17. He who had received two talents did the same, and gained two more.
18. The one who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money.
19. After a long time the master of the servants returned and settled accounts with them.
20. The one who had received the five talents brought five more and said, “Master, you have given me five talents; behold, I have gained five more.
21. And his master said, "Well done, good and faithful servant, for you have been faithful over a few things; I will entrust you with many things; enter into the joy of your master."
22. The one who had received the two talents also came and said, “Master, you have given me two talents; behold, I have gained two more.
23. And his master said, "Well done, good and faithful servant, for you have been faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master."
24. The one who had received the one talent came and said, “Master, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter.
25. I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. Behold, you have yours.
26. His master answered and said, "You wicked and lazy servant, did you know that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered?
27. Then you should have left my money with the money makers, and then I would have returned and received my principal and interest.
28. Take the one talent from him and give it to the one who has ten.
29. From everyone who has, he will receive and have an abundance, but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
30. Cast this useless servant out into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
sermon
We want to give good things to God. But what we actually offer is laziness and passive attitude. We want to be loyal to the Lord's work, but in reality we are busy avoiding and making excuses when we are given work. Why? This is because the responsibility of stewardship seems to be great, and they do not know what the blessings are.
1. God wants to give you power.
When God seeks good workers, the reason we hesitate is because we do not have enough power. But what we need to prepare is not ability, but loyalty. Power will be given by God.
2. He wants to give praise and recognition. The reason we are hesitant to take on a task is because we fear it will go wrong. But the steward has a greater hope for success than the fear of failure. This is because what the owner is trying to give is never rebuke, but praise and recognition.
3. He wants to give you eternal pleasure.
A steward does not work reluctantly. Because the steward is full of love for his master. Doing with love is never arduous or overwhelming. The steward is happy just to be able to give it to his master, and he is unable to help.
The steward does not compare who gets more, nor does it matter who does the greater.
Because, no matter how much or little you have, big or small, it is the same as doing your best to be loyal. A steward who is faithful in little things will be entrusted with great things in the eternal kingdom.
