Title: The Christian Life (Luke 9:1-6)
Contents
This text is the famous saying that inspired St. Francis to start his life, and thus the Franciscan Monastery on this land. We take for granted that Paul's words to give importance to nothing but Christ in our lives, or to regard the whole world as dung for Christ's sake, should be taken for granted and we should all take it for granted.
But in our reality, this doesn't work very well. Sometimes it's impossible at all, so it's justified as a sinner. Even as an individual, I am not confident in saying that in fact I live everything less precious than Christ. However, it is also true that it is a bit prickly in the stomach to go over what this is all about and what it is.
Let's think a little bit about our life in light of the words of today's text.
Today's text appears from the beginning as the speaker, the so-called subject of content. Up to 5 of the 6 verses of the text are Jesus' commands, and only verse 6 is the content that the disciples obeyed. The disciples followed Jesus' words. However, as I said at the beginning, it is said that it is quite difficult for us to live by the Word, but verse 6 of the text explains that it was done as if it was too natural, as if it should be.
But we don't take it for granted. No, it's more like an excuse to say it's impossible. So, why was it possible to do this? From a church history point of view, why did the Franciscan monks make this possible?
Let's take a look at a simple composition without complicating it. The answer is yes. That Jesus prepared it. Jesus makes a few things clear when he commands this.
The first and most important of these is the fact that the purpose is clear. In verse 2, Jesus makes it clear why He sends them. The purpose is to spread the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
Quite often we forget the purpose and purpose of our Christian life. In other words, we live by losing the reason we are commanded to live as Christians on this earth. The reason we are commanded to live as Christians on this earth is the same as in the text. That is, to spread the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
If we connect the kingdom of God with our understanding, we can say that it is a solution to spiritual and physical problems. It is true that the Christian life is focused on the spiritual, but that does not mean that we ignore the flesh. As we saw in the story of Jesus' suffering, Jesus does not ignore the flesh itself, as it is a sin to consider the fleshly things more important than God's.
Anyway, Jesus made his purpose clear. In order to live as Christians, as we follow Jesus on this earth, we must be clear about the purpose of our life. It is, of course, to spread the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. That is, both spiritual and physical problems are provided in the Lord.
see you second When Jesus sent his disciples, he personally prepared everything necessary for this purpose to the extent that he had a clear purpose. The disciples simply went out with the abilities they were given, as they were given. Those abilities are demon control, power to heal diseases, and authority. Demon control and healing power refer to the role of healing the sick, and authority is thought to be the expression of the propagation of the kingdom of God. Sickness is not just a disease, but it is prepared to cure all physical and mental diseases of humans, including warding off demons.
In fact, what is hidden behind the word power refers to an aura that someone roughly flirts with and cannot reach as a joke. I mean something that doesn't give you the mood to trust my fist rather than trust anyone in moderation. In fact, the gospel is not cheap. In fact, the gospel is not just about believing roughly, receiving blessings in moderation, and believing in moderation. To have authority does not mean that you are guaranteed something by your name or appearance, but rather that you are forced to surrender when confronted with it.
In the movie Ben-Hur, when Ben-Hur is being dragged into a slave ship, he is thirsty and in pain. When he sees people drinking at the waterfront, he runs and tries to drink, but there is a scene where a Roman soldier breaks a water bottle. At that time, Jesus scooped up water and gave it to Ben-Hur, and a Roman soldier came running with a sword in the pose of a bastard, and when Jesus looked straight at him, his whole body was exhausted and he rolled his eyes and shrugged. this comes out The face of Jesus is not shown, but I think that scene best describes the meaning of authority. Such authority, the way and attitude of a Christian's way of life, makes others think that they have no choice but to bow their heads, I think that is the true form of authority.
Among the elders in Korea's philosophical circle is Dr. Kim Hyung-seok. I've read his essays, and he has an interesting description of Christ's account. Although he is not a Christian, he speaks of a person who can trust Jesus Christ and accept Him as his Savior. The reason is that Jesus lived with the people, and during those three years Jesus showed the naked side of his life. However, in the last life of Jesus, the people are people who do not have the power or strength to save Jesus or do anything to do it, but they followed and watched the end of Jesus until the end. It is said that people followed Jesus with a heart of sorrow, both at the entrance to Jerusalem, at the scene of taking up the cross, and at the scene where they were forced to leave. From this, it is clear what the life of Jesus was like, and these evidences show that Jesus was really the Messiah or a man who could be trusted. He writes, however, that he is not a Christian because of doctrine or strange rhetoric. Although he is not a Christian, I think he does a very good job of describing the power of Jesus.
Anyway, Jesus gave the power and authority together to send the disciples out. The ability to heal refers to an attitude of mind that can understand the pain and difficulties of neighbors. this is the ability Authority, on the other hand, has allowed us to have something that is different from the way people live, something that is incomprehensible but irresistible and comes with an unknown force.
The third one is a bit of a thorny request. It is a request to have nothing in the body. Until now, if Jesus was giving, the last one would have to be done by them. But the content is that you must not have a staff, money, or clothes. How should this be interpreted? I would like to change this to have faith. Or, risk your life for what you do. In fact, there is nothing more important to us humans than to live and eat. However, if we receive power and authority from Jesus, we demand a change in the essential form of a life where eating and living is important, that is, something different from the way we normally live. And for that reason, because they have different values, they put the highest value on something more important than what they eat. And this is worth risking your life for. This does not mean, however, that the issue of living is completely ignored. It also presupposes the belief that God will prepare and prepare everything.
And one last very interesting and important final command on a Mac like this.
The last command is to be bold.
Be brave Received heavenly authority, received power, and received a new value of life is not something to be ashamed of, it is not something to hide, and it is a value that one can be proud of. Shaking the dust off your feet if you don't welcome them means that the people of Israel have nothing to do with you and me, and it is a sign that God might destroy your house and your property (Nehemiah 5:13).
In other words, it is a teaching that those who have received power and authority can and should be proud even if they do not get their own things, food, and shelter, or a place for us to live.
And when this was presupposed, the disciples went out and did so. lived such a life.
If we want to live that way, but we do not want to live that way, we will have to receive power and authority from God. If we are not given power and authority, but we are not prepared, we must say that our preparation or attitude of mind is wrong.
As long as we are Christians, we cannot ignore the mission of spreading the kingdom of God and healing the pain of our neighbors. For that, God has given us power and authority. What is left now will be our preparation, the faith to break away from the worldly values and entrust everything we eat and live to God. let's live like that Let's make it look like that.
