Title: The Comforter and the Church's Love

Contents

The Comforter and the Church's Love John 14:12-17 172

Today's message is the promise Jesus gave us.

Jesus promised to give us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.

And Jesus promised that we would do greater things that He had done.

He has promised to do whatever we ask.

The greater grace and blessing is the promise that Jesus will make it possible for you to love even my enemies as long as you love me and me.

All of these promises will come true if all of us living today have faith in Jesus as our Savior.

see the word. When Jesus made a very special promise to his disciples, in verse 12 he said that he who believes in me will also do the works that I do, and greater works will he do.

The next verse 13 says that whatever we ask in the name of Jesus will be done.

The Lord says not only is he with us, he does what we ask for. He is saying that He is doing amazing things through us.

However, here is an important fact that we must not misunderstand.

The truth is that we only ask, but Jesus does what we ask for.

What if you and I do not properly distinguish this?

What we can do is to ask, and Jesus is the one who grants us what we ask for.

If we make this mistake, the greater the grace that we and you both prayed for and received from the Lord, the greater we become, the more proud we become, forgetting God and mistakenly believing that we did it.

So, in order not to make this kind of misunderstanding or error, we must know very clearly that it is Jesus who accomplishes what we ask for.

Remember in Acts chapter 3 when Peter and John healed a poor man who had been blind since birth.

Everyone in the world thought that Peter and John's power had healed his miserable life. But what does Peter say?

It is not my ability that a person who has been unable to walk since birth can walk.

He told the truth that Jesus made him walk and run.

Look at the text 14:16-17

There is another great promise that warrants this promise, and that is the promise of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.

The Lord introduced the Holy Spirit as a personal person.

Therefore, we must have a sound and right attitude of faith to be guided through a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is a personal being who comforts and helps as a Comforter.

Making a fuss and making a fuss is not the filling of the Holy Spirit.

I reiterate that the Holy Spirit is a personal God who comforts and helps as a Counselor.

Next Sunday is Pentecost.

We need to become such people filled with the Holy Spirit, those who strive to be like the Holy Spirit, those who are led by the Holy Spirit, and strive to help others.

The Bible prophesies about the last days, “Know this that the times of suffering will come in the last days, when people will love themselves, love money, be proud, arrogant, slander, disobey their parents, ungrateful, unholy, callous, and open minded. He is not, accuser, unrestrained, ferocious, not fond of what is good, treacherous, sells, hasty, sleeps, loves pleasure more than the love of God, has a form of godliness, but denies the power of godliness. Turn away from such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5) He said.

We cannot overcome this difficult time when temptations are many and sin is churning without the help of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter.

“Turn away from such ones” (2 Timothy 3:5).

I pray that the whole family of our Saehan Church will be able to enjoy the joy of the fulfillment of today's text, John 14:16, the promise Jesus made, and the blessing of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter.

What a person is close to and what he loves determines a person's personality, language, and life.

We hope that the Saehan Church we serve will be filled with people who are filled with the Holy Spirit, those who strive to resemble the Holy Spirit, and those who strive to help others by receiving and leading the Holy Spirit.

The church is not just a human body. The church is the body of Jesus Christ.

Colossians 1:18 says, “Christ (He) is the head of the body, the church.”

Even if it's me and you who are flawed and lacking, if God's precious will is rightly and faithfully unfolded in faith through us, that place is the body of Christ, the church.

Also, loving the church and serving the church are for God and for Jesus Christ. To dedicate and serve the church is to do it to God.

God who loves such a person promises blessings in Psalm 122:6-9

“Pray for peace for Jerusalem, and it will prosper for those who love Jerusalem. Peace in your city, and prosperity in your courts. Now I will say for my brothers and my friends, and peace among you. For the house of the LORD our God, I I will ask for a blessing for you.”

Everyone! When we ask why God blesses those who love the church, it is saying that God blesses those who love the church for the sake of God's house, that is, the church.

“I will bless you for the house of the Lord our God.”

Because if you bless someone who loves the church, that person will dedicate himself to the church again.

This is the reason why God blesses those who love the church.

And what we need to know is the reason for the existence of the church, the salvation of souls.

There are many things to say about the mission of the church. Worship comes first.

Rescue comes first. Education comes first. Friendship comes first.

All right. However, please remember that the salvation of souls comes first.

What were the last words of Jesus when he ascended into heaven?

“Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”

(Matthew 28:19-20)

Let's pray together.
