The Creator's Ultimatum (Hebrews 1:1-2)
At the end of the Pacific War in August 1945, the United States tried to end the war by dropping an atomic bomb on Japan. Japan never intended to surrender despite the long-distance war, and the US, exhausted from the war, wanted to end this war by a decisive means, so they tried to end the struggle with the atomic bomb, a lethal weapon.
However, the atomic bomb is such a deadly weapon that the aftereffects are unimaginable, so the US sent a warning message to the people of Hiroshima before dropping the atomic bomb. If you do not leave the city within three days, you are warned that something terrible will happen. Flyers were distributed through airplanes, and warning messages were continuously sent out through broadcasting and other media.
However, most of the people of Hiroshima did not leave the city despite the numerous warning messages. For the people of Hiroshima, who have no way of knowing the horror of the atomic bomb, it was considered unimaginable cowardice to leave the city because of the threat of bombing.
In the end, the city suffered great devastation because it failed to heed the warning messages conveyed in various ways.
Dear brothers and sisters, I am telling you this today because the situation faced by the citizens of Hiroshima is very similar to the terrifying situation facing mankind today.
This is verse 1. "God, who once spoke to our ancestors through the prophets in various parts and in many ways..."
It is said that God has spoken. In what way? In the old days, he used various prophets to speak in various parts and in many ways.... Why did God use so many prophets to speak in different ways and in different ways? This is because the people who heard the word did not believe it and did not follow it even though they heard it and knew its meaning. If you say it once, there is no response, and if you say it twice, there is no response. When this prophet came and spoke, I couldn't understand him, and when that prophet came and spoke in another way, there was no response. In the text, it is said that God spoke in various parts and forms. Sometimes he spoke in a way of a dream, sometimes in a visible vision, and sometimes through a miracle that the sea parted and the sun stopped He said this, but still, humans did not understand and did not return to God.
God, who felt sorry for the people who sin and leave God and live according to their own heart's will and the lust of their heart, is sorry, but through endless various methods and various people to repent, return to God's grace, and quickly return to the path of life and salvation. He spoke for such a long time, but the reaction of man was extremely cold and rather, it turned out to be against God. It is the history of the people of Israel in the Old Testament.
After all, the Old Testament is a record of despair that reveals the ugly nature of human beings who responded with rebellion and rebellion before God who calls and seeks.
So, now God finally gives the last ultimatum to the rebellious humans. This is verse 2. "In the last days of all these days he has spoken to us as a son..."
Dear brothers and sisters, Jesus Christ is God's ultimatum to the rebellious people of this earth. 'In the last days of all these days he has spoken to us as a son' In the old days, God, who had been constantly speaking in various ways and in various ways through various prophets, has finally sent the message of salvation and life to the rebellious people of this earth through his Son Jesus Christ. No more messages now. No more warnings, no more words now. He was the last to send the most complete and most sufficient message of judgment and salvation to the people of this earth through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Dear saints, now humans have only one chance to choose. Salvation and judgment are decided according to how you respond to the message of salvation from Jesus Christ, God's ultimatum. There is no other way, no other choice. There is no other opportunity other than the gospel that has come before us today.
Dear brothers and sisters, have you responded to this God's ultimatum? Did you repent and return to God after hearing the word, or are you still doubting, ridiculing, and hesitating like the stubborn people of the Old Testament?
Today we need to know the seriousness of this gospel we have received. We need to know the urgency of preaching the gospel. Now you have said the last thing. I have nothing more to say. Obedience to this Word is salvation and life, but disobedience is bound to fall into the abyss of eternal judgment.
Dear brothers and sisters, consider the seriousness of the gospel. We must remember clearly how desperate it is to preach the gospel, and we must approach it with a solemn heart and attitude that proclaiming the gospel to people means delivering God's ultimatum to that person.
During this year, make a commitment to responsibly fulfill our heavy and solemn mission to deliver God's ultimatum to the world. Remembering that we have received the final message of God's tenacity and persistent love that has been spoken to the world for thousands of years, we are responsible for this final message to our close family and neighbors and to the souls at the far end of the earth. In the name of the Lord, I bless you that you can devote yourself as ministers of the gospel that deliver it.
