The Cross and the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:8-17)
Genesis 2:8 The LORD God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and put the man he had formed there.
Genesis 2:9 The LORD God made trees grow out of the land, pleasing to the eyes and good for food, and in the middle of the garden was the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:10 The river flowed from Eden and watered the garden, and from there it parted and became four sources.
Genesis 2:11 The name of the first was Pishon, and all the land of Havilah, where there is gold, was surrounded.
Genesis 2:12 The gold of the land is pure gold, and there is also bdellium and onyx.
Genesis 2:13 The name of the second river was Gihon, and it surrounded all the land of Cush.
Genesis 2:14 The name of the third river was Hiddekel, which flows east of Assyria, and the fourth river is Euphrates.
Genesis 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to rule over it and to keep it.
Genesis 2:16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, From every tree of the garden you may eat whatever you choose.
Genesis 2:17 You shall not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die.
God created man and blessed him so that he might be fruitful, multiply, subdue, rule, and be full. And He created the Garden of Eden, the best place for them to live, and allowed them to live in that garden so that they could live a happy life without any lack, worry, and pain.
Today, I would like to examine the meaning of the Garden of Eden and tell you how it relates to Jesus Christ.
*Eden means Paradise in Greek.
It was a place of happiness established by God. Eden remains the hope of mankind a dream deep in our hearts. It is a geographical place, written in a symbolic sense.
Geographical theories of the Garden of Eden are in the Far East with the river as the center, in the vicinity of Eridu in southern Babylon, and in the northern Babylonian region. There are various theories, but the geographical theory is not clear because of the difficulties that the biblical name does not mean only a single area and that the topography of the earth continues to change.
It is a fact that the Garden of Eden in the Bible is never mentioned here for the purpose of indicating a specific area. And the fact is that it is not meant to represent the initial state of the earth.
Therefore, any attempt to understand the scientific aspect of geographical observation or the state of the earth in the primitive age with the words of the text is meaningless.
Because God uses everything in nature to reveal the truth that enables us to gain salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, we must discover Jesus Christ through the words of the text and have faith in Him so that we can hear the voice of God speaking through the text. I believe.
First, the appearance of the Garden of Eden is a place full of food, water, and treasure. It is described as a place where you can live without hunger because there are various fruits in the garden, where you can live without thirst because of the flowing water, and where you can live a life of abundance and satisfaction as it is full of gold and silver treasures.
First, food is the word of God, which means Jesus Christ Himself.
John 4:32-34
John 4:32 He said, I have food to eat of which you do not know.
John 4:33 The disciples said to one another, "Who brought you something to eat?"
John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to complete his work."
John 6:27-35
John 6:27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, whom God the Father has sealed.
John 6:28 They asked him, What must we do to do the works of God?
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "It is the work of God that you believe in him whom God has sent."
Joh 6:30 And they asked him, What is the sign that you do so that we may see and believe in you? What are you doing?
John 6:31 Our ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, as it is written, "He gave them bread from heaven to eat."
John 6:32 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
John 6:33 The bread of God comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
John 6:34 And they said, Lord, always give us this bread
Joh 6:35 Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.
The Word of God is the food of our life, and the One who became flesh is Jesus Christ. God's Word can be divided into two things: do's and don'ts. When you obey these words well, you are blessed and given peace.
Next, there were four rivers flowing in the Garden of Eden.
It has the meanings of bison (abundant, full), spirit (abundance, fullness), Hidekel (quick, torrent), and euphrates (ability). As the names of these rivers indicate, they mean that many waters flow rapidly and exert infinite power. This river shows the riches of the grace of Jesus Christ.
First, water represents the Holy Spirit. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will be filled with infinite power and joy. In John 7:37-39
Joh 7:37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the scripture says, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.
John 7:39 This was speaking of the Holy Spirit, which those who believe in Him will receive (for Jesus had not yet been glorified, the Holy Spirit was not yet with them).
The phrase ?쏿ccording to the name of the Bible??in this verse refers to the words of Isaiah 12:3 and Ezekiel 47:1-12.
Isaiah 12:3 Therefore with joy ye will draw water from the wells of salvation.
Ezekiel 47:1 And he brought me to the gate of the temple, and the front of the temple was facing east, and water came out from under the threshold, and flowed eastward, and then flowed down to the right hand side of the temple, the husband of the altar.
Ezekiel 47:2 And he brought me out to the north gate, and came to the outer gate, which was broken by the outer road to the east; and behold, water was seeping out from the right hand
Ezekiel 47:3 The man went east with a cord in his hand, and after measuring a thousand cubits, he made me cross the water, and the water came up to my ankles.
Ezekiel 47:4 Again he measured a thousand cubits and made me cross the water, and the water came up on his knees, and he again measured a thousand cubits, and he made me cross the water, and the waters went up on his loins.
Ezekiel 47:5 And again he measured a thousand cubits, and the waters became a river that I could not cross.
Ezekiel 47:6 And he said to me, Son of man, have you seen this? And he brought me back to the river.
Ezekiel 47:7 When I returned, there were very many trees on either side of the river.
Ezekiel 47:8 And he said to me, "This water will flow toward the east, and it will go down to the Arabah and come to the sea.
Ezekiel 47:9 Wherever this river goes, all living creatures that multiply will live, and there will be very many fish; and the water will flow in and the seas will be refreshed, and everything will live wherever it goes.
Ezekiel 47:10 And a fisherman will stand by this river, from En-gedi to Eneglaim, as a casting place, whose fish, according to their kind, will be exceedingly numerous, like the fish of the great sea.
Ezekiel 47:11 The mud and mud will not be burned, but will become a land of salt.
Ezekiel 47:12 On either side of the river grow trees of all kinds for food, and their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not wither; they will bear new fruit every month, and their water will come out of the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food, and their leaves will be for medicine.
As the water flows, dead fish come to life, a dying tree revives and bears new fruit every month, and fishermen catch a lot of fish. However, it is said that this river refers to the Holy Spirit that those who believe in Jesus Christ will receive.
Where the Holy Spirit is filled, the work of new life will take place, and abundance and power will arise. Therefore, the Garden of Eden is a life filled with the Holy Spirit, rich in the grace of Jesus Christ, and a life centered on the Word of God and eating the bread of life.
Although materially poor, weak, despised and despised, and suffering tribulation and suffering, living life centered on Jesus Christ forms the Garden of Eden and leads to a heavenly life.
A life that fully receives the grace of the Lord means that we resemble the Lord and live like the Lord. This is the life of taking up the cross and following the Lord.
The wind is invisible, but it is a phenomenon that occurs when the wind blows, so you can tell that the wind is blowing.
Likewise, the Holy Spirit cannot be seen, touched, or heard, but where the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we will bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and we will live a life of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, positivity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
This life refers to the life of Jesus Christ, and his life was completed by dying on the cross. Therefore, only those who carry the cross and follow the Lord can live in the kingdom of Eden in the Garden of Eden.
The kingdom of heaven is never about enjoying material abundance, physical health, or the glory of wealth, but suffering with Jesus Christ and being killed with Jesus Christ is the kingdom of heaven. ?챆here is also the lyrics of the hymn "I don't want a heaven without Jesus, and I don't hate a hell with Jesus."
In other words, if the Lord is with you, that place looks like hell, but that place is heaven.
Therefore, the Garden of Eden should not end with the meaning of a geographical garden created long ago. The Garden of Eden was lost through human sin, and the original garden became a garden. Therefore, the saints long for the lost paradise of Eden on earth and should not dwell on it any longer.
Now, the place we hope for is a second Eden, a sanctified and baptized second Eden that cannot be compared with Eden on this earth, a heavenly paradise.
Believe that Eden, where we will finally enter, is again without temptation, without tears, without death, without suffering, and rich in all kinds of spiritual treasures.
Please believe that it is true Eden, where the river of life flows from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Please keep in mind that those who have the hope of participating in this heavenly Eden are those who wear white linen clothes that have been sanctified by the blood of Christ, the only begotten Son (Rev 7:13-14).
Revelation 7:13 One of the elders answered and said to me, Who are these in white robes, and where do they come from?
Revelation 7:14 And I said, "You know, my lord." And he said to me, "These are they that come out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
The Garden of Eden means to obey the words of Jesus Christ at any time, to receive the full grace of the Holy Spirit, to live a life of walking with the Lord, to sacrifice to the point of death to fulfill God's will like the Lord, and to die on the cross to save mankind. Please believe that the life you love until you lay down your life is the life in heaven and the life in the Garden of Eden.
Matthew 16:24-26 Word
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
Matthew 16:25 Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Matthew 16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? What will a man give in exchange for his life?
In the name of the Lord, I pray that the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled in your personal heart, at home, in your workplace, in your workplace, and at school wherever you live in the Garden of Eden to become a partaker in the cross of Jesus and to live with Jesus Christ. .
