Title: The Cross, That Love
The content of the cross, that love (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)
After Jesus ascended to heaven, the first church prepared for Easter Sunday by fasting a day or two before Easter, but the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD finally set it to 6 weeks and 40 days. This is called Lent. Although Lent does not have biblical authority, it is very meaningful to keep it set apart for the benefit of faith. The last week of Lent is called 'Holy Week' or 'Holy Week', and our Daegu Seomun Church also holds a special early morning prayer meeting this week, and communion service on Friday evening. Let's attend a lot and receive great blessings.
The suffering Jesus suffered in the last week was difficult to describe in words. In the movie 'The Passion of the Christ', Jesus is dragged into a courtyard called Bridorion and brutally whipped by Roman soldiers. He was beaten in the legs and body with whips, and eventually passed out. After that, he climbed Golgotha while carrying a 50 kg cross, and was nailed to both feet with 18 cm thick nails, and a crown of thorns was worn on his head and his face was stained with blood. Finally, the cross was erected, and Jesus suffered torn limbs due to his slack weight. If you are hung on the cross, you endure the longest for 3 days or as short as 36 hours before you die, but Jesus died within 6 hours. This fact explains how many times Jesus was whipped before being crucified.
Why did Jesus die so desperately in such suffering? In Isaiah 53, God says that it was for our sins, transgressions, and sufferings. Without the cross we cannot explain the love and gospel of Christ and our salvation. Like 1 Corinthians 1:18, to the world, the cross is infinitely foolish, but for us who have been saved, I want you to believe that it is God's saving power.
