The start of faith
(Hebrews 11:8-16)
Where is the source of human power? It is in faith. Another way of expressing faith is “hope” and “spirit”. Even if everything else dies, if you have faith, there is hope.(...) It is more important to learn God's wisdom in difficult times.(...) Why are people wandering in modern times?(...) The reason is that It is because there is no food for the soul. It is because there is no faith (confidence) that feeds the soul.(...) Those who believe see all things by faith.(...) Christians are people who believe because God has spoken. It is impossible for us to think, but we believe. (...) Christians are the ones who overcome the world and win with this kind of faith.
Today, we would like to share grace through the faith of Abraham.(...) Abram was just a patriarch who traveled to a corner of Mesopotamia in the 19th century BC. But when he became Abraham, he became the father of all believers, the spiritual ancestor of mankind, Christianity, Judaism, and even Islam.(...) Abraham's faith is the model and starting point of Christian faith. So what was Abraham's faith?
① It is a stranger's faith.
Abraham was a man who left whenever God called him. Abraham's faith, who lives according to God's call, is 'a stranger's faith'. The traveler's faith is to believe that wherever God walks, it is where I live. The hometown of the saints is where God dwells. God makes us realize that we are strangers. (...) The stranger's faith sees the world as a temporary dwelling place and the kingdom of heaven as an eternal place. A stranger is a person who suffers because he leaves without a fixed place to find hope.
② It is faith that obeys the Word.
Abraham obeyed God as He spoke. Our faith begins by hearing the word of God (...). Faith always begins by examining the word of the Lord. Those who believe in Jesus are despised by unbelievers because they live just like them.(...) To live a life worthy of God's call, we must learn to listen to His voice. Only when we respond to God's call can we become faith. Therefore, obedience always follows faith.(...) Martyrdom is the highest peak of obedience and the pinnacle of our faith.
③ It is the belief that longs for the homeland, that is, the heavenly faith.
The land that Abraham left for was a land that worshiped idols. Relatives are the source of recognition, affection, and circumstances we need to live. Abi, home means the world. Abraham departed from all these things and began his life looking to a new land. It is a life of living in the world and looking to God. Faith is the starting point that transfers our belongings from the world to God.(...) Amen.
