Sermons for Preaching

Title: The Disobedient People / Isaiah 28:9-13

“They say, To whom does he teach knowledge, and to whom the way to enlightenment? to those who are weaned from their bosom? For borders on borders and borders on borders, precepts on precepts, precepts on precepts. A little here and a little there. Therefore, with stuttering lips and with other tongues, he will speak to this people. He said to them before, This is your rest, and this is your refreshment. You said, Give the weary rest, but they did not listen. So the LORD said to them, "Boundary will be added, border will be bordered, precept upon precept, precept upon precept, a little here and a little there, so that as they go, they will fall back and be broken and caught and caught" (Isa. 28:9 - 13)

Like the Samaritans, the Jews, like the Samaritans, committed the sin of disobedience by drunkenness, and the priests and prophets were also drunk, so that they could not perform their duties properly, and they made wrong prophecies, forsaken visions, and erred in judgment. Moreover, the prophets and priests were guilty of ridiculing and despising the prophecies of the prophet Isaiah. There are many sins in the world, but the sin of disobeying the words of God's servants is disobedience to God and is a very terrible sin.

1. The priests and the prophets mocked Isaiah's prophecy

Jewish priests and prophecies say that Isaiah's prophecy is very childish, and he is arrogant because he is calling out God's punishment recklessly to them as priests and prophets. Repeated words of instruction and warning are said to be prophecies that do not fit them. This is a mockery of Isaiah's prophecy, proclaimed during a time of spiritual dire straits. But the truth must be taught over and over again.

A prophet demands obedience to God's word, so when we do not obey, we have no choice but to repeat the same words (Proverbs 15:32, 12:15).

The priests and prophets despise the words of the prophet Isaiah, and they cannot hear them right away.

2. Even today, the word of God is ridiculed.

Even today, people do not like to hear the words of a preacher who preaches the word of God, and sometimes vomit or criticize the word. The reason people hate preaching is because they have not been born again. The work of God seems to be done by foolish people in foolish ways, but God chooses to do it with such a person (1 Corinthians 2:14). But to unregenerate people, such things only seem foolish.

Another reason people don't like to hear sermons is that they don't pray for those who preach. A sermon is delivered in proportion to the person's faith personality and word. If we receive God's servants well, God will give us gracious words through them.

Another reason people hate preaching is because they do not have the faith to obey God's Word. Such people are arrogant, and while listening to the sermon, they break down the Word according to their own logic and find only the wrong ones.

Another reason why God's word is not heard is that people have closed their hearts because of hypocrisy and their ears are blocked because of pride (2 Tim. 3:6; 2 Tim. 4:3 - 4). People hate the Word of God because they have committed sins and because of their empty hearts. Anyone who vomits the word of God even though it has been proclaimed will be punished before God.

3. Discipline for those who ridiculed the words of the prophet

In some cases, the preacher's own error or lack of character causes the Word of God to be vomited, but if there is a person who refuses even though the right word is being proclaimed over and over again, that person will be punished in the sight of God.

(1) You will hear things you cannot understand (verse 11).

This means that you will be ruled by people from a foreign country you will not understand, such as Babylon.

Without the Word of God, no vision can be seen and hope is lost. Therefore, our greatest curse is that we do not have the Word of God in our ears. It is a great blessing to hear the word of God at the right time.

(2) There is no rest from God

God taught that the words of God to the nation of Judah are your rest and peace. For those who obey the word of God, the word brings peace and happiness. But the Jews rejected God's offer. Therefore, God punished the people of Judah.

(3) To fall, to break, to be caught, and to be caught (verse 13)

God commanded Judah, who eventually abandoned the Word of God, to be taken into captivity through Assyria and tormented. God is the one who rewards people according to their deeds (Psalm 18:26).

King Charles IX of France was the man who killed and bled many Protestants after the Reformation and paid many martyrs. However, in his later years, he died of a disease that did not stop the blood from rupturing a blood vessel in his body. This is just one example, but God allows those who shed blood like this to eventually die because of blood.

Haman also killed the Jews by hanging himself on the pole he had set up to kill Mordecai.

The priests ridiculed the words of God that had been heard through Isaiah, but now God made them captive by the Assyrians, just as God said to them, “As you go, you will fall and be broken and caught and caught.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

We are to honor the Word of God, to rejoice and rejoice, and to regard it as a blessing.
