Title: The Disposition of God
Contents
▒▒ Bible _ Hebrews 6:13~18
One of the themes of the Old Testament is the covenant. In the Bible, we can see God's covenant, God making promises and fulfilling them. Therefore, since the Bible itself is called the Old Covenant, the Old Testament, and the New Covenant, the New Testament, the Bible can be said to be the book of covenant in other words. Through this very covenant, we can know God's will for us and God's disposition. I sincerely hope that this will be a time for us to learn more clearly about God's will for us and God's disposition.
First, if we look at our God's covenant, God's covenant is quite one-sided. God makes promises to us unilaterally. When we get married, “I, the groom, will always love and respect whoever we become, whether in good times or bad, rich or poor, sick or healthy, from this moment on until death do us part. I swear in the name of God.” swear an oath. This pledge is unconditional. Likewise, when God blesses us and makes promises of those blessings, there are no conditions. We will bless you when we are healthy. We will bless you only when we are wise. There is none of that. We can only see God's one-sided blessing on us in the covenant.
Second, it is the fact that God certainly keeps His covenant. Today I read Hebrews 6:13-18, and since there is no one more certain than God, God swore by himself, “I will certainly bless and bless Abraham.” I promise. Then, “Abraham waited for this promise for a long time, and he received the promise of the blessing.” The Bible is saying. So, the characteristic of God's covenant is that God must fulfill it. He risked his own honor and made a covenant with us.
Third, the hallmark of God's promises is that God makes promises to those who are in that very situation, even if they are completely impossible, in darkness, and without possibility. And the fact is that he will fulfill that promise.
“You will grow up to be an adult.” Anyone can make a promise. Actually, this is not a promise. The promise that God blesses is quite impossible, and to a person in darkness, “You will surely become a child of light. This is the characteristic of God's promises.
When we think of a promise, the first thing that comes to mind is the promise made between God and Abraham. God said to Abraham, “I will make you into a great nation, and I will make your name great, and I will make you a blessing.” He said and promised in Genesis 12:2~3. However, this promise is seen as an impossible promise in view of Abraham's condition. Abraham is 75 years old and his wife is 65 years old.
This promise between Abraham and God appears in more detail in Genesis 15, where Abraham split a three-year-old cow, a three-year-old female goat, and a three-year-old ewe in half. And we put them to face each other. However, I cut it like this during the day, but nothing happened until the night. At that time, in the dark night, a torch symbolizing God passed through the cleavage in the middle.
This scene tells us two important facts. It is a dark night, the fact that God's light passed through the darkness without any hope. It is the fact that God's light came to Abraham's family in the dark situation of Abraham who could not have children at all. This is the characteristic of God's covenant. Dear brothers and sisters, who is God? He is the one who makes us strong and weak. I want you to know God's disposition accurately. Please remember that God's promise to bless us is being fulfilled today. God has never forgotten this promise.
In 2 Samuel chapters 23 and 24, God says to David, “David, my covenant with you is an everlasting covenant. Even though you have committed the unforgivable sin, the sin of killing a person, this covenant I made with you is an eternal covenant, so I will not keep it.” This is the characteristic of God's promises.
God does not bless us because we have done well. Even if God unilaterally made us sons and daughters and we sinned by nailing God to the cross countless times, regardless of what we did, God promises us It is the fact that you bless and love what you have done. This is God's disposition, and this is God's work toward us revealed in the Bible.
Finally, the fulfillment of God's promises is so clear and true in God's plan. Assuming that the Israelites entered the land of Canaan right after they came out of slavery for 430 years, it is likely that the Israelites could not establish a kingdom in the land of Canaan. It is impossible for those chaos to enter the land of Canaan in a week and establish a nation. In a way, it seems so embarrassing. Even after 430 years of slavery in Egypt is difficult, why do we have to wander in the wilderness for 40 years? However, after 40 years of living in the wilderness, they were able to cross the Jordan River and establish the kingdom of God in a land flowing with milk and honey. We didn't know it, but we didn't know it at the time, but we can already know that God has a plan for blessing, guiding, and working.
Everyone, if we accept Jesus Christ, if we believe in God's promises, please believe that the blood of blessing flows within us. It may seem clumsy to others. However, I hope you believe that wherever you go, the blessings of heaven will come upon your family. This is God's promise. Please remember and be thankful that we have come to this point today amidst such miracles and blessings. God's promises are from darkness to light, from impossible to possible, and from hopelessness to certainty. I pray in the name of the Lord that you will become believers who believe in this promise.
