Title: The Dreamer Comes
Text: Genesis 37:18-19
It is the story of two people who are once imprisoned in a narrow cell by mistake. There is no light in the cell, just a small window above the stone at eye level. Of course, the two prisoners spend a lot of time looking out the window. But what they saw was a completely different world.
- What one person saw was a cold iron grate that reminded us of the stark reality. Day by day, the grass died more and more, and he was grieving, bursting with anger, and despairing.
- In contrast, what the other prisoner saw was the star beyond that window. The thought of starting a new life in a free body filled with hope. They were looking out the same window, but one looked at the grate and the other saw the stars. The difference in vision made a huge difference in their lives.
What am I really looking at right now?
Is it the iron bars that tell the cold reality? Or are you looking at the stars high in the sky? This year as well as the last several years, we have been on a very difficult road, both politically and economically. But if you have a dream, you can overcome any hardship.
1. Joseph the Dreamer
Who is the first person that comes to mind when we think of dreams in the Bible? This is Joseph.
When Joseph was 17 years old, he had a dream that God gave him.
That's Genesis 37:7-9. (Let's read it together)
From Genesis 37 to 50, the story of Joseph's dream come true is recorded in a total of 13 chapters. The first book of the Bible. Genesis - after the story of the creation of the world - God's words are about dreams and visions. Having a big dream of saving the world, there are countless adversity and trials in the process of making that dream come true, but you must hold on to the God who gave you that dream and live.
1) In the bible 37:2... Joseph was a taunt when he was young. (Imperfect personality)
(2) Joseph's family circumstances (environmental imperfection) - Joseph's father Jacob had two mistresses and two concubines. Also, Joseph's mother, Rachel, died prematurely while giving birth to Benjamin.
Joseph, the victor of dreams, did not have any special talents or character, nor did he have a very good family environment. So, how could Joseph be great?
It is because of the dream God has given you! It is the fact that it is a 'dream', not an innate talent, personality, environment or circumstances that makes people successful.
Dreamers are great. Great dreams make him great.
As Helen Keller said, the poorest person in the world is not the person without money, but the person without a dream. Such a person cannot be the person God intended to be.
The darker and more painful the times, the more we need a dreamer - a person of vision.
2. Dreams from God - Vision
(Let's read Genesis 37:7-9 together)
Joseph's dream is not simply a story of success, advancement, and dominance. It was a dream that moved and influenced people around me for good. It was a dream to go one step further to save the family, save the nation, and save mankind.
That's right. A true vision, a dream big and amazing, is a dream that saves and blesses lives. It is a dream to save mankind. It is a dream to save the nations of the world.
If we had a dream today, what kind of dream would it be?
1) Ambition - A strong desire for success/power/wealth. “Dream of Death”
2) Dream - There is absolutely no possibility of reality. The difference between a dream and a vision is the presence or absence of fierce effort, passion, and prayer.
3) Dreams and Visions that the Bible says - Visions arise when the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus, comes upon us.
Acts 2:17 I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your children will prophesy, and your young men will see visions,
What is Jesus' vision?
John 10:10 I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.
The vision, the dream Jesus had, was to spread life to the world and bless our neighbors.
The dream that saves lives and blesses the world, not the ambitions of money and power of the people of the world, is the vision that God's people should dream of. [Are we people of vision? Isn't it?] Let's check.
Does my neighbor make me happy? Will my neighbor stop crying and be comforted because of me? Do my neighbors believe in Jesus because of me, change their destiny, change their circumstances, receive salvation and eternal life, and enjoy the authority of becoming a child of God?
Underwood's Dream
(Missionary. Yonsei University established. Jeongdong Church established] After graduating from New York University and Reformed Theological College, he prayed for entry through Jemulpo Port in 1885) Faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen. I believe that we will be able to see the future of faith.. There is no chapel or school to worship at now, and it is just a place full of vigilance, doubt, contempt and humiliation, but I believe that this place will soon become a land of grace. Lord! Only hold on to my faith!
[How are those dreams and prayers fulfilled 125 years ago today?]
3. I am in charge of my dreams, but God is in charge of God's dreams.
When we dream of God and long for His kingdom and righteousness, God will take charge of our lives and bless us.
Satan threw him into a pit to sabotage Joseph's dreams, made him sold as a slave, and tried to imprison him, but God protected Joseph and blessed his life, making it the most precious life to bless the nations made this happen.
Genesis 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph, and he prospered. He was in the house of the Egyptian. 3 His master saw that the LORD was with him, and he saw that the LORD prospered in all things.
Jesus clearly gave promises.
[Matthew 6:33 Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness... and all these things will be added to you]
Today, if our families and our children possess the vision of God and live for the glory of Jesus, Jesus will surely bless the lives of those who live for His kingdom and righteousness, and will be with us until the end of the world.
May such blessings be with your families, businesses and children in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
