Title (Thursday) The Faith of the Reeds of Jochebed
Contents
Hymn: Chapter 206, “A long time drowning in all sins”/Meditation: Praise the Lord for His perfect grace. Thank you, Lord, for taking care of our weakness. /Confession of Faith: Apostles' Creed / Bible: Exodus 2:1-10 / Key Verse: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1)
Word: Pharaoh of Egypt, after failing in the policy of exterminating the Hebrew people with the wisdom of the Israelite guards Shipbra and Buah, increased the robbery and ordered that if a Hebrew woman had a son, it should be thrown into the Nile River unconditionally to be killed. The Hebrew woman Jochebed bore a son. I hid it for three months, but the crying of the child was so loud that I could no longer hide it. They put the child in a reed basket and put him among the reeds of the Nile River. Just then, Pharaoh's princess came to take a bath, and she rescued him and adopted him as his adopted son, and named him Moses. Moses' sister Miriam boldly asked the princess to hire Moses' biological mother as a nanny and nurse her until weaning. Moses received the prince's education for 40 years, and this is the faith of the reeds.
First, the reed target is light and fragile. But it is faith that God will protect you. Moses' mother, Jochebed, believed that even if the wood was not strong and of good quality, it would be safest if the Lord protected it. We too must make sure our children are protected by God.
Second, the faith of the reed person is to believe that only God leads them. There are no oars and no anchors in the box. There are no devices you can control. Even if there is nothing in our lives, we just need to trust in the Lord and be sure that He will guide us.
Third, the faith of the reed target is that God will meet the time. It is said that the princess of Pharaoh rarely came to bathe in the Nile River. But the princess came exactly where Moses was. As soon as the princess rescued the reeds, Moses wept loudly. This is the right moment to stimulate the maternal instinct of the princess. The princess was deeply moved by the loud cry of a decent little child. The princess gave the child the name Moses, meaning “to rescue him from the water.” Named by the princess means a special relationship.
With the wisdom of his younger sister, Miriam, Moses was breastfed by his mother and received religious education as a leader of a great nation in the future. We must have the faith of a reed person who completely depends only on the Lord. Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
Prayer: The Lord guides our way. Only trust in the Lord and allow me to do all things. Help us to overcome the difficulties you have given us with the faith of the reeds. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
