Title: The Family of Faith

Contents

A family that inherited the faith

(2007.05.13. Mother's Day) (Jeremiah 35:18~19)

May is Family Month. - First of all, I would like to wish you and your family a happy family in May, the month of the family.

Today is Father's Day. - Parents open the way for their descendants to receive blessings, and I pray that the descendants will continue the legacy they opened up and become saints who are filial to their parents and brighten their families.

Among the people in the Bible, there are families who saw their ancestors committing evil deeds, and their descendants also committed evil deeds and then perished. *Parents were beautiful believers, but there are children who failed because their descendants did not imitate their parents' faith. *There are people who are not respected by their parents, but their children are converted and follow the right path. *The most worthy of imitation is a family whose parents leave a beautiful legacy of faith, and their descendants keep that heritage well and receive blessings from generation to generation.

*Abraham -> Isaac -> Jacob -> Joseph is a family worthy of imitation.

Abraham's family is a very great family and is a model family that everyone should imitate.

*Although not a very well-known family - the family of Rechab - is a family worthy of imitation.

I pray that your family will become a blessed family like the family of Abraham and like the family of Rechab.

Today I want to take a look at the Rechab family.

1. I hope that you will become the ancestors of faith inheritance.

*The royal family cannot come out of the cottonwood root - If you want the royal family, one day you must make the decision to dig up the cottonwood root and plant the royal family root.

*You can't pick sweet persimmons from the Goyam tree - if you want sweet persimmons, someday - you must make the decision to cut the Goyam tree and graft the persimmon branches.

* It is also said that for the sins of the parents, up to the third or fourth generation children will pay the price for their sins (Exodus 20:5).

If you want a blessed family, a shining family - it is important that the parents first prepare well for the blessing and leave it to their children.

*Please remember the words, “I show kindness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments” (Exodus 20:6).

*In the Rechab family, Jonadab was responsible for creating an inheritance of faith.

Rechab is not very well known. Therefore, there was no inheritance in the family. However, Jonadab, the son of Rechab, left a great mark with his special faith.

Jonadab, who saw the extreme idolatry in Ahab's time - along with Jehu - destroyed the idolatrous shrine of Baal, killed the worshipers of Baal - and took a stand in religious reform (2 Kings 10:23-24).

Rechab, a man of faith who appeared like a comet, left an inheritance to his descendants. It's not even power. Nor is it property. No honor - the only inheritance he left for posterity was faith.

“Jonadab commanded us, saying, ‘You and your descendants must never drink wine, neither be greedy nor greedy, and be frugal all your life, and keep the faith” (Jeremiah 35:6-7). . It has become a family legacy.

Rather than fame, power, or wealth - we became the ancestors who left behind an inheritance of faith that was far superior.

2. Descendants who kept the inheritance of faith well.

A silver spoon is a good spoon, but is it worse than a stainless spoon if you don't clean it?

Aaron was a great priest - some of his sons failed to inherit their father's faith.

David was also a great king, but among his sons, there was a son who was destroyed because he did not inherit his father's faith and was disobedient.

No matter how good your parents may be, they are useless if your descendants don't keep the inheritance.

Parents who make a good inheritance are important - but their descendants must carry on the legacy well.

The descendants of the Rechab family - they kept the legacy of faith handed down to them by their ancestor Jonadab.

(Jeremiah 35:8-10) - “We obeyed all the words that our ancestor Jonadab the son of Rechab commanded us, so that we, our wives, and our children will not drink wine all our days, nor build houses to live in, nor build vineyards or fields or seedlings. We live in tents, and we keep everything that our ancestor Jonadab commanded us to do.” - A descendant who is proud of keeping the inheritance of faith.

*Parents who have become parents, please pass on a good legacy of faith to your descendants.

* I hope that the saints who have become children will inherit the inheritance of faith handed down by their parents.

3. The blessings of descendants who have kept the inheritance of faith well.

I believe that God will greatly love and bless the descendants who inherited the faith from their parents with good faith and kept the faith as an inheritance.

(35:18-19) - "Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You must obey the commandments of your forefather Jonadab, and keep all his rules, and he commanded you. - Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: - From Jonadab the son of Rechab there shall be no one to stand before me forever." - Amen!!

*Jonadab is not from a noble family. He is a person who has not inherited any inheritance.

However, he had great faith in himself and became a son who even gave glory to his nameless father.

And he passed on to his descendants an inheritance that will be blessed forever.

*Jonadab's descendants valued their ancestors' inheritance and kept the inheritance in vain, making the family they left behind and becoming a family blessed by God.

Dear Kyungil Church members, let's create families that receive the same blessings that God has given to the Recab family.

*If you are from a prestigious family of faith, I pray that you will be filial to your parents and God bless you by knowing that you are the inheritance left by your parents.

*If you are not from a family of faith and are a believer for the first time - like Jonadab - I hope that you will become a good believer - and even your parents - because of you, make them happy.

And I pray that your descendants will receive the respect that you were the forefather of faith that brightened your family.

*Faith is filial piety - Even if your ancestors did not have faith, they will become good believers like Jonadab and be filial to their parents. I sincerely wish you the best of luck
