The filial life of saints
Ephesians 6:1 3
Korea has already entered an aging society with 7.2% of the elderly population since 2000.
And by 2019, it is predicted that the elderly population will exceed 20% and become an aged society.
The problem with aging is that, in a word, the proportion of people earning money decreases, and the proportion of the elderly who cannot work and need to be supported increases sharply.
As life expectancy increases, the costs that society must bear, such as medical and welfare expenses, increase rapidly, but the number of people to work decreases, making it difficult to meet these costs, resulting in a huge social and economic impact.
What is more problematic is the speed at which the aging population is progressing in Korea. It takes only 19 years for the elderly population in Korea to grow from 7% to 14%, and it is predicted that the country will enter an aged society by 2019.
In 19 years, Korea achieved what France said 114 years, Sweden 85 years, and Japan 25 years, which was even faster.
The seriousness of the problem is that it changes so rapidly that you can't afford to properly prepare.
Those who have become old now must face this aging, which is approaching with great destructive force in a situation that society has not properly prepared for.
Not only the seniors today, but also all of us who will become seniors in the future are confused.
We welcomed Mother's Day with such a heavy heart. We must gather our wisdom to prepare for this approaching aging population. But first of all, we must establish the ideal of filial piety in our family.
This is because, first of all, if family filial piety is established, this aging can be prevented in the first place.
Why should you filial piety?
The first thing we need to think about is why we Christians should be filial.
This is because when you realize this fact, you can practice filial piety more thoroughly.
First, because it is the right thing to do.
Verse 1 of the text says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” In God's eyes, it is the most right thing for children to be filial to their parents.
Right here means "according to the principle."
It is a basic principle of nature that water flows from top to bottom. Just as water flows from top to bottom, filial piety to parents is in line with the basic principle of the human world established by God. What you do is the right thing to do.
It is true when people see it and fundamentally when God sees it.
So, if you break this, you lose your humanity.
Second, because it is a command from God.
In verse 2 of today's text, it says, “Honor your father and mother”, which is a strict command from God.
If you look at the Ten Commandments, the ten commandments that God's people must obey are written down.
It is divided into two parts, one for God and the other for man.
However, if we analyze this commandment carefully, the first commandment toward God is “You shall have no other gods besides me.” This commandment serves as the root of the three commandments to another God.
Do not make idols, do not take the name of the Lord in vain, and keep the Sabbath day holy.
The first commandment of the second part, the commandment to man, is to honor your parents.
Likewise, honoring one's parents is the root of the commandment for all human beings.
Because these commandments, such as not to murder, not to commit adultery, not to steal, not to bear false witness, and not to covet your neighbor's house, are possible when you honor your parents.
That's right. Being filial to your parents is a special command from God.
So, not being filial to your parents is breaking God's command.
Third, because there is an important promise.
In verse 3 of today's text, "This is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and you may live long on the earth." God promised blessings to those who honor their parents.
There are several commandments that God has given, and all of them must be obeyed.
However, only this commandment has a bonus attached to it. If you honor your parents, they will make you happy.
It also means to live a long life on earth.
In an extreme interpretation, if we want to live well in this world, we only need to be filial to our parents.
You can live well even if you work normally and diligently without making any extra effort to live well.
Because God has promised. Because God bless you.
And if we want to live long in this world, we only need to be filial to our parents.
Because God has promised. Because God bless you.
This filial piety is a command that must be kept to the extent that God commands it with a special promise.
Those who keep this command can really please God and receive special blessings that God has prepared.
There are four most serious problems with the elderly today, and I will tell you specifically how we Christians should be filial to our parents.
First, you have to make sure you don't feel lonely.
The number one problem with the elderly today is loneliness. In fact, one of the greatest pains of aging is loneliness.
Just as the teeth of a comb are cut off one by one, loved ones leave the elderly one by one.
The children get married and leave. One by one, my close friends go to the kingdom of God first.
The wife and husband who had loved each other for the rest of their lives pass away.
Now, like a single strand of comb left alone, the deep loneliness creeps over me in the years I am left alone.
According to a survey by the Korea Institute for Elderly Issues, in 1975, the number of the elderly living with their descendants was 78.2%.
However, in the 2000s, it had plummeted to 25%.
The number of seniors living alone was 7% in 1975, but in the 2000s, it increased to 55%.
Most of the elderly are living apart from their descendants, and the percentage of people living alone is increasing.
So, one of the most serious problems facing the elderly in Korea today is loneliness.
Second, you must take care of your health.
The second problem of the elderly today is the pain of disease. Among the various changes that people experience as they get older, aging is the most prominent of the aging, and physical aging is the root cause of disease.
In fact, everyone over the age of 65 will have at least one health problem.
Common ones include arthritis, high blood pressure, hearing loss, heart disease, cataracts, and dental and gum problems.
As the body ages, there are times when it suffers from its own special disease.
The problem with most older people is that they are raising the problem of this disease on their own.
First, the ability to recognize the disease is significantly reduced.
Even though they are afflicted with various diseases, they all come as they get older and give up.
Moreover, they do not inform their children that they are a burden.
Third, we must keep our faith.
Among the problems of the elderly today, the most decisive is preparing for death.
People around me die day by day.
I seriously feel that death draws closer, step by step.
At this time, those who are not spiritually ready feel despair.
A unique product appeared on TV home shopping this year. It's called golden water.
Andongpo itself sells shrouds covered in 99% gold, even though the shroud is priced at hundreds of thousands of won.
Tens of millions of won is common, and a hemp company in Andong was offering 100 million won worth of shrouds.
The Bible tells us that when we die, our bodies return to dust and our souls go to the place where God worshiped. Wearing the golden shroud does not mean that our souls will go to heaven.
Our souls do not go to heaven just because we die and are buried in a famous place. It's all about the flesh.
It is just a process of returning to the soil.
The question is whether our souls are ready to go to the kingdom of God.
If you believe in Jesus, your soul goes to that kingdom of God, but if you don't, your soul goes to hell.
True preparation for death does not lie in where you return to the dust and how you return to the dust.
It depends on whether the soul is ready or unprepared to go to heaven after death.
Dear all! Filial piety among filial piety is to make people believe in Jesus.
It is to help you prepare to go to heaven.
Our goal is to help you keep your faith until you receive the last call from God.
There is nothing more urgent than this.
Today is Father's Day. As Christians, we need to look at our filial piety.
First of all, our Christian filial piety must be different from those of non-believers.
You must be right in the sight of God. It must be strictly obedience to God's commands.
You should be able to get the promised answer.
Next, it should address the specific needs of the parents.
I must not be filial only for my satisfaction, only in words and in form. Don't make your parents lonely.
You must take care of your parents' health and, above all, help them prepare to receive God's call through faith.
Dear all! Our filial piety must be approved by God.
It should be something that pleases your parents.
