Title: The Filial Piety of Jesus
Jesus greatly set the example of filial piety to Heavenly Father and filial piety to parents on this earth. So are we. In spirit, they are children of our Heavenly Father, and in the flesh, they are children of our parents. Therefore, just as Jesus practiced filial piety in heaven and filial piety on earth, we should be filial to God and our parents in the same way.
First, Jesus was filial to God the Father. Above all else, Jesus, who came in a human body, wanted to avoid the difficult path of the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane, but first sought the Father's will, and finally took up the difficult cross and obeyed God the Father until death. In this way, Jesus is the Son of Man before God the Father. As the saints who have become children of God, of course, like Jesus, we must live as filial sons and daughters of God the Father.
And Jesus was filial to his parents on this earth. Luke 2:51 says, “And Jesus went down with him and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to him.” Although it is a short passage, these verses give us a good understanding of what Jesus lived throughout his earthly life. Jesus honored his physical parents, Joseph and Mary, and was filial. In particular, if you look at today's text, a more moving scene appears. Jesus looked at the disciple John and said, "Purple! your mother." “John, now you take my place as a mother. Please.” As Jesus is the mother of the flesh, he was worried about Mary for the rest of her life. That's why he urged him to live by relying on his disciple John as his son. After that, it is said that John treated Mary like his own mother.
Please be final to your parents while they are still alive. Please do filial piety not only on Mother's Day, but also on a regular basis. After death, no matter how much you break your legs and make your tombstones and tombs incredibly splendid, it is of no use. I hope that you will honor your parents with a heart that truly serves God and serve God well with a heart of longing for your parents.
