The foolish rich man's illusion Luke 12:16-21
The talk we will share at this time is titled [The foolish rich man's illusion]. Everyone lives in various delusions to varying degrees. If you go to Jeju Island, there is a road called Goblin Road. In reality, the slope is low, but it looks like an uphill road. Even when the car is turned off, it feels like going uphill even though the road is going downhill. This is a so-called optical illusion that is delusional due to the requirements of the surrounding environment.
A bit of a funny story about an illusion - At a medical school hospital, there were two students who said they were the best. Two students were walking down the hallway when I saw a man walking with a very painful expression on his back and stumbling. One student said. “Obviously rheumatoid arthritis.” Then another student shook his head flutteringly and said, “Oh my God, that must be a disc. While we were crying with each other, the man approached us and asked with difficulty. “Where is the bathroom?” Who was it? It was the toilet seeker, not the patient.
I don't know how many people live with this illusion of reality. In today's Bible, there is a farmer who makes many plans after harvesting a lot of grain. “Let’s tear down the granary and build it again. And let it be piled up and rest in peace, eat, drink, and be merry.” Then God speaks. “You fool, this night your soul will be retrieved, then whose will your preparations be?” It's like pouring cold water. So many people live in illusions, like foolish farmers.
Specifically, what was the farmer's misunderstanding?
1. It was an illusion that only I could live.
1) A person who thinks only of himself is a fool. Verse 21 says, “He laid up treasure for himself.” It is an extremely selfish view of life only for oneself. This man has no thoughts of God or of his neighbor. How selfish is this farmer? The word 'I' and the word 'my' appear 5 times. The human heart, having received the fallen nature of Adam, is extremely selfish. Satan encourages pride and selfish desire to become wise like G and exalt like G.
2) Man is a social being. The world we live in is not alone. Humans were made to live a social life. As Aristotle said, humans are social animals. It also means that God created a family and called the church as one body as a social human being. Therefore, there must be service and sharing.
Francis Bacon said, “There are three main types of people in this world. The first is a person who should not exist, the second is a person who has one mana, and the third is a person who must exist.” It is sometimes divided into a life like a spider, a life like an ant, and a life like a bee. It is also called a minus life, an equal life, or a plus life.
A selfish person is a minus life like a spider. Because all crimes stem from selfishness. It is an evil idea that only I have to live while doing things that harm others. Conflicts between labor and management often stem from self-interest. Global warming is also a product of international selfishness that only we need to achieve economic revival. I don't know that the trash I threw away will come back to me.
3) Be a person who fears G. The fear of G is the duty of life. G made us to be glorified throughout our lives. When G becomes my master and the king who rules over me, the kingdom of G will be established in my heart and a truly happy life will be possible But in a selfish life, there is no love of G or love of neighbor. There is no grace, no faith, no blessings, no heavenly rewards, no friends. These delusions are ultimately self-defeating thoughts. That's why he was called a fool in the text.
2. It was an illusion that only money was needed.
1) The evil idea of golden omnipotence. Verse 18 says, “I will do this: I will tear down my barns and make it bigger, and I will store all my grain and all my things there.” People need money to live. But the idea that money is the most important thing and that you can do anything with money is a very dangerous idea. Money is not the purpose of life. But there are many people who use G as money.
The philosopher who advocated materialism was Karl Marx. As a materialist, he saw the value of matter as supreme. But it was an illusion. From there came communism, which destroyed humanity. It was this materialist communism that caused the most suffering, the worst, and the most souls to hell on earth. When the substance is held, the substance leaves and the G also leaves.
2) Material does not make people happy. As CNN President Ted Turner said in the US, “How would you feel if you were so rich? “It’s like a paper bag. Everyone wants that bag. But when you actually have the bag, you realize that there is nothing in it.”
King Solomon was also the wealthiest man. But, in Ecclesiastes, he says, “Vanity and vanity, vanity, vanity, all things are vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2), “Now that we have heard the end of things, fear G and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:2). 13) I did.
3) A person who loses something more precious because of bathing in water is a fool. You become a thief, a con artist, a robber, and a murderer because of your lust for water. Because of bathing in water, they become enemies among family members and lose friends.
Foolish people live their lives for material things. For them, money is the purpose of life, and money is God. However, it is foolish to collect materials and not know how to use them. That is why Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:10, “The love of money is the root of all evil, and those who long for it have been deceived, and have erred from the faith and have pierced themselves with many sorrows.” I did.
So the Lord said, “Beware of all covetousness, for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” You did. G does not starve his people to death. Don't be too attached to material things, live your life by faith while using your material gifts well according to your purpose.
3. It is an illusion that only the body needs to be happy.
1) Hedonistic view of life. Verse 19 “And I said to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; His view of materiality was nothing more than a tool of pleasure to enjoy. He put life's happiness in eating, drinking and enjoying. So, is carnal pleasure really happiness?
Today, indulgence and debauchery are widely spread. Most of the popular dramas these days are about infidelity. Because such things are popular and attracting attention among modern people. As a result, family breakdowns in Korea as well as abroad are rapidly increasing. I thought it would make me happy, but it wasn't. Both you and your children are experiencing great pain and suffering.
2) Hedonists will be judged by G. The culture of Noah's time was the hedonistic culture, and the culture of Sodom and Gomorrah was the same. Their appearance brought G's lamentation, wrath, and judgment. Hedonism is bound to perish.
In modern times, the culture of eating and drinking is serious, as well as a corrupted sexual culture. Eating well doesn't make you happy. Adult diseases are usually caused by eating well. The drinking culture is also serious. Korea has the highest alcohol consumption in the world. How severe are the mental and physical side effects of alcohol and tobacco?
3) A person must have a good soul. In order for the soul to prosper, it is necessary to eat well in the form of the words that come out of G's mouth. If we do what our faith is good for, we will throw it away. Let's sleep a little more, lie down a little more If you go out with the caution that let's be more comfortable, that faith will die. You do not know how important it is to give your body in your life of faith. Prayer seems to be done with the soul, but if you don't give your body, it will not come out. From experience, if you lean or lie down, your prayers will die as much. You have to give your body as much as possible to win. You have to give your body to go to church, give your body to sing songs, give your body to read the Bible, and give your body to evangelize and serve.
the bible says “This is the meaning of G, for your holiness, that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality, and each of you should know how to take his own wife in holiness and honor. Our calling is not to defile, but to sanctify; therefore he who rejects us does not forsake man, but G, who has given you his Holy Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8). Go -.
4. There is also a religious misunderstanding.
1) It is an illusion that all religions eventually come together as one.
2) The ultimate teaching of all religions is the illusion that they are the same.
