Title: The Four Bloods of Christ
Contents
title ; 4 Blood of Christ
main text ; John 19:30-34
You will remember the ten plagues that came upon Egypt. From the disaster of the Nile turning into blood to the death of the firstborn, after 10 plagues, Pharaoh lets the Israelites go.
Martin Luther, the Reformer, said, “Wipe the Bible. There will be blood.”
If you squeeze the Old Testament, the blood of animals will come out, and if you squeeze the New Testament, the blood of Jesus Christ will come out.
Therefore, many Bible scholars say that it is not an exaggeration to say that if you do not see blood while reading the Bible, you are spiritually blind.
Now, as we begin the Holy Week, we want to receive grace together while thinking of the four precious blood of Jesus.
1st Blood - Blood of the Garden of Gethsemane
The blood that was shed in prayer is not the blood that wipes away our sins. If the blood shed in the Garden of Gethsemane was the blood that wiped away our sins, the Lord's work of redemption would have ended in Gethsemane and there was no need to go to Calvary. But the Lord died on Calvary. Then what does the blood shed in Gethsemane give us?
When there was a problem, the Israelites always described it as a mountain. For example, in Mark 11:23, Jesus said, “If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, believing that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.”
However, after praying to the Lord until he shed his blood, he did not call the problem a mountain but a cup. Those who pray by relying on the first blood of Christ will have the power to see all problems as small as a cup.
So, those who have received the power of prayer through the sprinkling of this blood see their problems as small and God sees them as large. However, a person without this blood becomes an incompetent person who sees problems big and God looks small.
The blood of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane is the blood that gives the gift of faith of “I can do it” by giving the power of prayer.
2nd Blood - The blood shed from the whip
It is estimated that the Lord was beaten with a whip for approximately 3 hours and bled for 9 hours.
What does that blood mean to us?
The prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 53:5, “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and with his wounds we are healed.” testify that.
Therefore, the blood that the Lord shed when he was whipped is the blood that heals us. It is the precious blood that gives health and peace.
3rd Blood - Blood shed through the Crown of Thorns
The two thieves who were crucified with Jesus were not crowned with thorns.
But why did Jesus only wear the crown of thorns?
The thorns were not created at the time of creation. Genesis 3:18 says, “The earth will produce you thorns and thistles.” God cursed humans and gave them to stab them.
When the first Adam sinned, thorns came out, but it is very meaningful that the second Lord wore a crown of thorns when he was nailed to the cross to save mankind. The blood of this crown of thorns is the blood that washes away human curses.
When Jesus was nailed to the cross, He bore our curses.
4th Blood - Blood of the Cross
It is the most precious blood. Blood was dripping from both hands and feet. And later a Roman soldier pierced the side of the Lord. But when he pierced his side, the Lord did not feel any pain. Because he stabbed the dead. However, according to the Roman literature, when people pierced the side of those who were crucified, the heart was pierced through the side. It has a very significant meaning. When you are nailed to the cross, blood is poured out little by little. Afterwards, it will only be a little stagnant in the heart. But even that blood was poured out by the Lord. He is the One who gave blood for us in life, but He is the One who gave blood even in death.
This blood is the blood that saved us.
Jesus shed his blood four times and died. Those bloods gave us the history of salvation.
