Old Testament
2. All the congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
4. Then the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread for you from heaven, and the people will go out and gather their daily rations. In this way I will test whether they will obey my laws or not.
5. On the sixth day they shall prepare what they gather; it will be twice as much as they gather daily.
6. Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, In the evening you will know that the LORD brought you out of the land of Egypt.
7. In the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, because the LORD has heard that you grumble against him. Who are we, that you grumble against us?
8. And Moses said, In the evening the LORD gives you meat, and in the morning he is satisfied with bread: for the LORD has heard your murmuring against him, who are we? No, not for the LORD.
9. And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near to the LORD, for the LORD has heard your murmuring.
10. And Aaron spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and they looked into the wilderness, and the glory of the LORD appeared in the clouds.
11. The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
13. In the evening quails came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was dew around the camp.
14. After the dew had dried, there was something small and round and fine like frost on the ground of the wilderness.
15. And when the children of Israel saw it, they did not know what it was, but they said to one another, What is this? And Moses said to them, This is the bread the LORD gave you to eat.
new testament
1. The kingdom of heaven is like a housekeeper who went out early in the morning to find hired laborers and bring them into the vineyard.
2. He promised the laborers a denarius a day and brought them into the vineyard.
3. And when I went out at the third hour, I saw other people standing in the marketplace playing.
4. And he said to them, Go ye into the vineyard, and I will give you a fair amount.
5. Go out again at the sixth and ninth hours and do likewise.
6. At the eleventh hour, I went out and saw that there were other people standing there, saying, “Why are you standing here playing all day?
7. He said, "No one employs us as laborers." He said, "You also go into the vineyard."
8. As it was evening, the owner of the vineyard said to the steward, "Call the laborers, and give wages to the first, starting with the last."
9. Those who came at the eleventh hour came and received a denarius each.
10. Those who came first thought that they would come and receive more, but they also received a denarius each.
11. After receiving it, he grumbled against the owner of the house and said,
12. These men who came later worked only an hour, and made them like us, who toiled and endured the heat all day long.
13. The master answered one of them, saying, Friend, I have done nothing wrong with you. Did you not make a promise to me for a denarius?
14. Take what is yours, and go. It is my will to give to this last one as well as you.
15. Shall I not do my will with mine? Do you look evil because I am good?
16. In the same way, the last shall be first, and the first shall be last.
sermon
Jesus spoke in parables. A certain vineyard owner went out early in the morning and promised to buy a laborer and give him a denarius for a day's wages. When I went out at 9 a.m., there were workers who were still playing because there were no jobs, so I decided to bring them into the vineyard and give them a reasonable price. The owner did the same at 12 noon and 3 pm.
When I went out at 5 pm, there was someone still playing, so I sent him in to work. At six o'clock, the work was finished, and the master began to pay wages to the one who came later, and he gave him a denarius.
The one who came first thought, ‘I have worked more than that person, so I will give you more’. However, the owner was giving the same denarius. The first one said, 'We've been sweating and enduring in the heat all day, but how do you treat them like someone who only worked for an hour?' ? Take yours with you. I do good with mine, and you say you are evil?’ After these words, Jesus said, “In the same way, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
This is the heart of the first. Our hearts must become the minds of the latter.
