Title [2011] The Holy Name of God
Contents
(Ex 3:14-15)
God's name is a holy name. In the original language, it is 'Yehwa'. When it is written in Korean, it is written in various ways, such as Yahweh and Jehovah, but the name of God is a consecrated name. Therefore, in Deuteronomy 5:11, when God gave the people of Israel the ten commandments through Moses, he said, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for I the Lord will not condemn anyone who takes my name in vain. ”
Then how can we know God? In general religions such as Buddhism and shamanism, you can know God through images or pictures, but since the God of Christianity is a spirit and God who is spirit cannot be seen, you should not try to know God through images, pictures, or knowledge. God can be known only in His name. You can't even try to know God by name, and if you do, you're wrong. In Exodus 32:1~8, while Moses was meeting with God on Mount Sinai for 40 days, the people asked Aaron to show him the invisible God.
God's name is God, and God's name means God Himself. Even Jesus, who came in the name of God, said, “Whoever calls on my name will be saved.” The angels of heaven exist for God's name and are those who serve and exalt God's name. People on earth were also created for God's name, and they are those who praise and exalt God's name. Therefore God loves and blesses those who love His name. Mal 3:16 also said that the names of those who honor the name of God are written in a book of remembrance.
It is God's will to glorify God's name. In the prayer given to us by Jesus who came to this earth, it begins with Matthew 6:9, “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.” The purpose of Jesus coming into this world was that “the name of God the Father may be hallowed.” Therefore, believers must glorify God's name (Mal 2:2). The same is true of angels. Jude 1:6 “And he imprisoned the angels in darkness, with eternal bonds, until the judgment of the great day” God is the only God. God is a spirit, but the spirit is eternal. There are three eternal beings that the Bible speaks of. (1) God (2) angel (3) man Among these three, only God is the eternal and true God. Angels and humans are eternal creatures from the day they were created. Of course, there are demons and devils, but only God is the most supreme God.
God works for His name. Psalm 23:3 “He leads in the way of righteousness for his name’s sake”, 1 Chronicles 22:10 “He shall build the temple for my name”, 2 Kings 21:4 “I will put my name in Jerusalem” The land of Judea is a holy land. It was made for the name of God. Our saints call his name and call him God. It is a holy name. Therefore, we too must be holy. 1 Peter 1:16 “Be holy, because I am holy.” Just as we are to be the light of the world even though we are not the essence of light (Jesus), even though we are not the essence of holiness (God), we must live a holy life sanctified in the world. do. Because we are children of God who calls the Holy God Father.
Let all the members of the Shepherd Church who are holy children of God seek holy change.
