The French Enlightenment scholar and philosopher Voltaire was a famous atheist who asserted that "in 100 years the Bible will be gone." But when he was about to die, he lamented, "I have been abandoned by God and men. Doctor, spare me six more months, and I will give you half of my wealth." But the doctor replied coldly, "Your life is only two weeks." Voltaire repented and tried to return to God, but failed due to the hindrances of his fellow philosophers. Finally, before death, he cried out, "I'm going to hell!" However, in contrast to his saying that the Bible will disappear 100 years after Voltaire's death, his house became a Bible Society that publishes the Bible, and the Bible published by the British Bible Society in 1930, 150 years after his death Mando has printed over 12 million copies in 643 languages.
Today is the third Sunday of Advent and Bible Sunday, which is commonly observed around the world. We should be able to thank God for giving the Bible, the word of God, to us through Bible Sunday, and to become believers who always love and spread the word of the Bible. The total number of Jewish peoples scattered around the world is about 15 million, which is said to be only 0.25% of the world's 7 billion people.
However, they account for 33% of all Nobel Prize winners and have a powerful influence in the world's politics, economy, culture, science and other fields. How did the Jewish people become a nation with such global influence? When talking about the characteristics of the Jewish people, he says, "The Jewish people are the people of books and the people of education." They meditate on and memorize the Old Testament from a young age, and grow together with the words. They say, "A house without books is like a body without a soul." In this way, the Jews have become the outstanding people of the world by always keeping close to God's Word and trusting them absolutely. As we celebrate Bible Sunday today, what kind of book is the Bible? We would like to think about it together and share the grace.
