Title: The Joy of Studying
fun to study
Text/ Deuteronomy 6:4-9
1. Introduction
There seems to be very few people who did well in 工夫 (studying) during their student days or those who did not, and most of them feel that “studying = suffering” and “studying = fun”. This is because the study of school life was compulsory, legal, dictatorial, or forced, because it was a study conducted under the coercion of society and family. After reading the articles written by masters and guru of Korean school studies about studying, most of them confess that studying = suffering.
We often hear the saying, “The honors at school are the failings of society, the slack at school are the honors in society, and happiness is not in order of grades.” Such words stem from the misconception that “study = school class”. Because, in the true sense, studying is not “study = school class = grades”, but rather, each person graduates from school and lives, This is because it is a holistic process of research-effort-patience-training-honoring in order to achieve the best achievement in each selected field (music, art, film, religion, etc.) working in a field unrelated to the
2. The pleasure of studying
“Sea Fever” by John Edward Maysfield, the English poet laureate, the poet repeats several times “I must go down to the seas again”. After returning home from a rough voyage, I decided that I would never ride a ship again, and while living on land one day, I suddenly said, “Oh, this is not it! It is pointless to live like this, I must go to the sea again!” It is a poem that expresses the inner longing for
I crossed the Dinosaur Ridge of Mt. Seorak 3 times, which took 20km and 12 hours to hike. It is very difficult to climb such a large mountain. Throughout the hike, I was like, “Oh, I’m going to die. We should not come to such a rugged mountain again, but diligently go to the local mountain.” However, after climbing the dimly lit neighborhood for about a month, “Oh, this isn’t it! It should be about the level of the Dinosaur Ridge of Mt. Seorak, yes, it is Mt. Seorak again!” do.
I think this is the joy of studying. Forced-compulsory-half-forced study is the culmination of suffering. However, studying because I want to know - I want to learn - because I want to learn, no matter what study it is (whatever it may be!), such study is the ultimate in pleasure. The psalmist said, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth” (Psalm 119:103).
3. What is the pleasure of studying in a general sense?
first. There is Eureka pleasure. The joy of studying is first of all, knowing things that you didn't know, doubts, and frustrations were coolly realizing as if a 10-year-old congestion was cleared. What a pleasure this is!
The word Eureka comes from the old saying that Archimedes discovered the principle of buoyancy while taking a bath and saw the water overflowing in the bath. ! Oh, I finally figured it out!” means. Only those who study have the same "eureka! aha, experience" as Archimedes. Only those who study can understand the problem at a glance and solve the problem.
second. Barnyards are a pleasure. Baek Nak-cheon's 勸disciplinary text (Kwon Hak-mun).
