"The Lamb who overcomes (Rev 5:5-6)"
Revelation 5:5-6
1. It is comforting.
Revelation 5:5 says, “One of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep’.
Who is this elder?
He is the representative of the heavenly saints. Like John, he was a partaker in the tribulation, kingdom, and patience of Jesus. He who washed his clothes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. He was a victor, a co-worker of the gospel, and a servant of the heavenly throne.
The Lord comforted John the elder on earth, John who was weeping on the island of Patmos, who was weeping on the island of Patmos, who was participating in the tribulation, kingdom, and patience of Jesus, and the senior elder in heaven comforted him. made to stop weeping. So I told him not to cry.
2. The content of comfort is the Lamb who overcomes.
Revelation 5:5 says, “… The lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he will open this book and its seven seals.”
It was he who opened the book sealed with seven seals and comforted him that he was the right person to open the book.
Who is he?
1) He had the qualifications of a winner.
① It is the fact that he is the “Lion of the tribe of Judah” (Revelation 5:5).
The ‘tribe of Judea’ was prophesied as the tribe where the Messiah would come (Genesis 49:9-10). The ‘lion’ is a symbol of victory and strength, which symbolizes the victory of Jesus. He said that he would crush the head of the serpent (Satan) (Genesis 3:15).
With this fact in mind, Paul said, "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet" (Romans 16:20).
② He is also the Root of David.
This shows that he is king. He is the king of Israel, the successor to the throne of David. He was said to be a bud from the stem of Jesse, and a branch (bud) from his root (Isaiah 11:1). It was said that the sprout would stand as a symbol of all people (Isaiah 11:10).
2) The condition for victory is the Lamb.
As the lion of the tribe of Judah and the root of David, he triumphed in the capacity of a Lamb.
what kind of lamb
(1) He is the Lamb as the mediator.
Our text reads, “Between the throne and the four living creatures and the elders stood the Lamb… ' he said.
“Standing in between” refers to his intercession work. ‘Throne’ is heaven. The ‘four living creatures’ and ‘elders’ are representatives of the creature. The Lamb stands in the midst of it. This is what Jesus looked like when he died on the cross.
It is said four times in the book of Revelation that the Lamb, Jesus, stands in the middle. Even after Christ overcame death and rose from the dead, he stands still as he was crucified. This shows the eternal effectiveness of his intercession work.
(2) It is the Lamb that was sacrificed.
Again, our text reads, “The Lamb stood… ” (Rev 5:6).
What does lamb mean?
First, it means that it is an innocent sacrifice.
1 Peter 1:18-19 says, “You know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the deceitful conduct inherited from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. Nira,” he said.
Second, it signifies the sacrifice of the ransom.
In Isaiah 53:4-6, "Surely he bore our sorrows and bore our sorrows, but we thought that he was chastised, struck by God, and afflicted. He was pierced for our transgressions, and he was bruised. Because of our iniquities, the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has put on him the iniquity of us all. He said.”
So, didn't it say, "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29)?
(3) It is the Lamb that was slain.
Again, our text said, “It was as if he had been put to death early” (Revelation 5:6).
Revelation 5:9 says, “He was slain early.” The Apostle John could see that the Lord had the signs of suffering He suffered when He died on the cross. If so, it means that the blood of the Lamb shed was the prerequisite for victory.
(4) He is the Lamb of victory.
Our text again says “… They had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth” (Revelation 5:6).
This is a word that expresses the omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipotence of the risen Jesus Christ Himself.
(5) He is the eternal Lamb.
This means the atoning effect of the blood shed by the Lamb.
What is the effect of the blood shed by the Lamb?
First, the blood of the Lamb established our righteousness.
Revelation 1:5 says, “He set us free from our sins.” Romans 5:9 says, “We are justified by his blood.” 1 Peter 1:19 says, “With the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb”. 1 John 1:7 says, “He will cleanse us from all sin”. Hebrews 13:12 says, “He might sanctify the people with his own blood.” Revelation 12:11 says, “It gives us victory.” Matthew 26:28 says, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Therefore, Hebrews 9:22 says, “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission.”
Second, the blood of the Lamb spread universally and reached the elect.
Revelation 5:9 says, “You were slain, and with your blood you bought men out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.”
“Family” is a term used to describe people who have blood-related ties. A 'tongue' is a term used to refer to a race or tribe in which distant and distant languages communicate with each other. ‘Country’ is a term used for a group that has similarities in worldly habits. “People” is a term used for political and social groups.
Then, the blood of the Lamb Jesus spreads throughout the universe in its scope. sure "… In the middle” (Rev 5:9) should be noted. It extends to the elect among tribes and tongues and nations and peoples.
Third, the blood of the Lamb alienated people from sin and ruin.
In Revelation 5:9, it says, “Bought it with your blood and offered it to God.” In Satan and his kingdom, it means that God himself claims that it belongs to God.
Fourth, the blood of the Lamb brings us to God.
In Revelation 5:10 it says, “They are before our God”.
Fifth, the blood of the Lamb has made us a kingdom and priests.
Revelation 5:10 says, “He made them a kingdom and priests.”
Sixth, the blood of the Lamb gives us a high honor.
Revelation 5:10 says, “They will reign on the earth.” He made me live as a victor in the world.
This means that the blood of the Lamb was the prerequisite for victory, and the seven seals of the book in the right hand of the one who sat on the throne could be opened and the sealed ones opened.
That is why the elder in heaven told the apostle John, “The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome.
This is the hope and joy not only of John, but of all the churches.
