Title: The Land Entrusted to Us
Bible: Deuteronomy 1:19-25
Starting Point of the Word>>
This time, we would like to share the sermon with the title of “the land entrusted to us” through the words of the text.
The book of Deuteronomy means “the second law”.
After 40 years of exodus, Moses wrote these words to let the people of the second generation of Exodus, born in the wilderness, just before entering the land of Canaan, know how God had led the Israelites to this place.
Moses wanted the people to remember the laws of God, to teach them to their children, and by those laws all the people to worship and love God alone.
Today's text is the first sermon that Moses preached to the Israelites.
The content of this sermon is that God has given the land of Canaan to the Israelites.
So, Deuteronomy 1:6-8 looks back on God's command to conquer Canaan, verses 9-18 look back on the reform of Israel in the wilderness, and text verses 19-25 on the dispatch of spies. This is recorded.
Today, let's look at verses 19-25, which deal with the dispatch of spies among these verses.
After hearing the word of God, Moses had an amazing plan to occupy Canaan.
However, many tribes and people had already settled in that land of Canaan, and for Israel who lived in the wilderness, the land of Canaan was not a land that could easily be resisted.
At that time, many people came to Moses and suggested that spies be sent to the land of Canaan, and Moses accepted the proposal and sent one spy from each tribe to the land of Canaan.
Today, Israel will experience God's wonderful grace together with Moses.
What is the meaning of the land of Canaan that Moses is talking about through the words of the text?
In a word, it means the good land that God has entrusted to us, the land of blessing.
I pray in the name of the Lord that God's grace in giving Israel this good land today will be experienced together with me and all the saints.
Go to Word>>
The land that Moses remembers today and is speaking to many Israelites has the following meaning.
First, this land of Canaan, which Israel is looking forward to and hopes for today, is the land God has placed before Israel.
Looking at the first half of verse 21,
“The LORD your God has set this land before you.”
Says it.
It is said that when Israel entered the land of Canaan through the wilderness, God set the land of Canaan before Israel.
The fact that God has placed the land in front of the people of Israel means that God will take responsibility for it.
Don't worry, take what's in front of you.
In other words, conquer the land of Canaan in front of you.
Now, Israel has to choose between two paths, either in the wilderness, in Egypt, or in Canaan, bordering on the Jordan River.
God has given us a way too, and it is completely up to you to decide which way to choose.
The Bible records the path that God must choose for us.
First, look at the words of Deuteronomy 30:15,
“Behold, I have set before you today life and good and death and evil”
God has given us the way of life and the way of death.
It means that if we serve God, the way of life is given, and if we serve idols, the way of death is given before us.
Next God has given us the path of blessing and curse.
The words of Deuteronomy 11:26,
“I set before you today a blessing and a curse”
If you obey God's word, you will be blessed and those who disobey will be cursed.
Also, God has given us a spiritual and a physical way.
Looking at the words of Romans 8:6 (Romans 8:4-14)
“The mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.”
As saints, if we follow the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the way of life is given, but if we live according to the human thoughts of the flesh, it means that death is given.
Finally, Jesus Christ is set before us.
There is a way to salvation if you believe in Jesus Christ, but if you do not have faith, you will be thrown into the fire of hell forever.
In the name of the Lord, I ask you to become the bearers of precious faith who always choose God's side in any path that lies before us.
Second, the land God has given us is the land that God has given us to “go up and acquire.”
Looking at the middle part of verse 21,
“Go up and take possession of it, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you.”
It is the belief that the land God has given is already ours.
First of all, what does the word “go up” mean in the Word?
“Go up” means “don’t stay in one place anymore”.
For Israel to possess Canaan, it must not settle in the wilderness and must not remember Egypt.
You must go up toward Canaan in front of you.
In the same way, our faith should not remain in reality, but should be a faith that grows in the future.
In addition, we must not become saints who want to stay satisfied with the world, but become saints who ascend in hope for the eternal kingdom of God.
Next, there is the word “take possession”.
There is a saying, “Love is to win.”
Canaan, which lies before Israel, is a very beautiful and prosperous land.
It is a land that the Israelites who lived in the wilderness could long for.
If you yearn for the land of Canaan, do not sit down and take action.
In Genesis 13:17, God promised to give their ancestors the land they had tread on.
In order to receive blessings in faith, we must do our best to do what human beings can do.
Third, God says to Israel, who faces Canaan, “Do not be afraid.”
Since the Israelites had only been slaves in Egypt for 430 years, they had no skill or ability to fight.
So, conquering Canaan was truly terrifying and terrifying.
At this time, God gives them the promise and tells them not to be afraid.
Looking at the words of Deuteronomy 1:30-32, ‘
“The LORD your God, who goes before you, will fight for you as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and will fight for you in the wilderness as you did in the wilderness, as a man embraces his son. He took you by the way you have walked and brought you to this place, but in this you did not believe in the Lord your God.”
What God promised the Israelites through these words was,
He said that he would lead them ahead of time, and that he would fight for Israel, and promised to embrace Israel as a man embraces his own son.
But what's the problem?
Israel did not believe in God and was afraid and resentful.
As a result, God angered God, and none of the people who made God angry did not enter the land of Canaan.
Only Joshua and Caleb, who obeyed and believed, entered Canaan.
Fourth, God says, “Do not hesitate” about taking possession of the land that God has given to Israel.
God told Israel not to hesitate to conquer Canaan.
If there is anything God entrusts to us, he tells us not to hesitate, do not delay, and obey immediately.
The evil devil is looking for opportunities to overthrow us who are hesitant about the work of God.
Also, if we hesitate, the thoughts of the world, not the thoughts of God, cause us to stumble and disobey.
And above all else, if we hesitate, we miss out on opportunities God has given us.
Therefore, believers must immediately obey the Word of God and the inspiration given by the Holy Spirit.
God uses and blesses those who obey immediately.
At the end of the speech>>
Today, Israel looked at the land of Canaan, which God had entrusted to them, and confessed that it was a very good land.
Even now, God is preparing such good land and beautiful things for us.
And God told us to go up to this earth and get drunk, and not to be afraid of the problems of life that stand in the way.
If we have a decision of faith, it is important not to hesitate about that decision, but to entrust everything to God and bear it with faith.
Today, I pray in the name of the Lord that you will become all the saints who express God's will and live a life full of joy and gratitude in the good and beautiful land and works that God has entrusted to us.
