12/13/2009 Sermon
Text: John 14:16-21 (John's Gospel)
16. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever
17. He is the Spirit of truth, and the world cannot receive him, because it neither sees him nor knows him, but you know him, because he dwells with you and will be in you.
18. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
19. In a little while the world will see me no more, but you will see me, for I have lived and you will live.
20. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, you in me, and I in you.
21. He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
Title: Longing for the Messiah
1. God's love for sending the promised Messiah.
The long-awaited Messiah is that the ‘Messiah’ is Jesus Christ and ‘the one who was anointed by God to be the atonement. The hope of the people of Israel was the only hope of the coming of the Messiah, the savior, who would save them from the pressure of foreign powers and waited. As Christians living in today's unpredictable times, our hope is that the Second Coming Jesus will come to judge the world and take us to God's resting place soon.
December is the month when the baby Jesus abandoned the high and high heavenly throne, took on a physical body to save lowly and lowly humans, resisted the devil, gave his body to the devil, and came to give him the exceedingly great love of seeking humans and offering them to God. It is the 'Great Advent'. As promised, he overcame 'the devil Satan', who took over the world's principalities and powers, through the sacrifice of the cross and became the victorious king. God was satisfied and seated Jesus on the right hand throne of the glory of God who had been brought up by resurrection and ascending into heaven. And he prepared a place for us and promised 'Come again'.
2. The long-awaited return of Jesus.
Jesus, who came to overcome sin and evil, redeemed us mortal sinners, and sat on the right throne in heaven to make intercession and help for us even now, will come as Judge and King of Peace (1 Thessalonians 4:16) He Himself will descend from heaven with a voice and with the trumpet of God, He promised with these words. Therefore, the 'Great Advent' we observe has already come, and Christians living in the New Testament age have to wait for the 'awaited Advent'.
Our job is to meet the Lord in the church where God welcomes him by offering worship (worship), praise, and offerings. The Lord, the King of kings. Worship is about giving, not about seeing. In December, when Advent approaches, we pray that you will become earnest saints who are waiting for Jesus to come again. So, I earnestly pray that you will finally find eternal rest and peace in His arms.
