Title: The Lord's Supper/Matthew 26:26-30
Contents
“As they were eating, Jesus took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” And he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink it, all of you. My blood, the blood of the covenant, shed for you. But I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." came to me" (Matthew 26:26-30)
During the 33 years of our Lord's public life, he said, "Flying birds have nests, and foxes have dens, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head" (Luke 9:58). Occasionally, you were treated with respect by those you love. The day before Holy Communion, at the home of Simon the leper, Simon the leper, in Bethany, my beloved neighborhood, I was treated with the utmost hospitality. It was a bowl-breaking treat that I will never forget in my life. When the Lord was on this earth, He was treated by many people.
Now, before he left this world for the last time, he gathered his beloved disciples apart and blessed them. According to the Bible, the Lord himself provided the place, and the Lord himself prepared the food. Then he calls his disciples together and prays to God. When he broke the bread, he said:
"Eat this, you all. This is my body." Also, after eating, he takes a cup and gives thanks, then commands, "Drink this." “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
This is the Lord's declaration. It means 'I pledge my whole body to the most important promise and important message for my entire life'. When we make a declaration, we usually do it verbally. When you go to the demo stand, you'll see, "Everyone, step away. What is our argument?" Continue to verbalize the declaration. This word has tremendous power.
Around 33 B.C., there was a man named Gui Gokzi (鬼谷子) in China. This man was an excellent teacher in logic investigations. He had two disciples who were worthy of him. One disciple's name is Sojin (蘇秦), and the other disciple's name is Zhang (張儀). This Sojin saw the power of the Qin Dynasty rising like the morning sun. During the Warring States period, after being divided into several countries, one power soared up, and I felt a sense of crisis that the whole world would be at peace in front of that great power. So, Sojin visited the six countries in the east one after another and persuaded them.
"To defeat the rising Qin Dynasty, these six nations must unite and fight against each other."
At that time, the Qin Dynasty kept asking us whether to make peace with us or fight. So-jin argued that the Jin nation could not move if the six nations joined forces, and it turned out to be true. Six countries joined forces. When the Qin Dynasty tries to attack the Yan Dynasty, the Chu Dynasty attacks the rear. They lead the army and are forced to retreat. When they invaded the Han (Korean) country, the Qi (齊) dynasty was driving troops toward the capital city of Hamyang, so the king of Qin had no choice but to turn the army back. However, So-jin's friend, Chang Chang, was the minister of Chu. He is accused of taking a jade bowl from the royal palace and sentenced to death. Instead of being sentenced to a normal sentence, they are given a sentence of castration called taehyung. When he comes home, people make fun of him that the intestines are now useless people. At that time, the chief said:
"Unless the tongue of my world is cut off, I am a capable man."
He is determined to avenge his revenge. Determined to destroy Chu, he traveled to six countries.
"You can't deal with the rising Qin Dynasty like me. It will eventually perish. So, without anyone knowing, only you should be at peace with the Qin nation," he persuaded. By the power of those words, they deceived each other and made peace with the Qin dynasty. After a while, Qin unifies the world and creates China's first unified state called Qin. And that king ascended to the throne under the name of Shihwang. This is the story of Qin Shi Huang (秦始皇), and in the meantime, two well-spoken So-jin and Jang Chang-wook have built up their revolutionary contributions, both negatively and positively.
“Our ancestors built this land 87 years ago. And their ideology has come to us today, and according to their righteous thoughts, we want to create a society in which everyone is equal and where everyone is respected. I ran all the way here with the determination to create something, but this emphasis has caused our nation to divide and fight. A lot of people are lying here. No one will remember what we said here. But those who fought for justice here will be remembered forever, and on their sacrifice this country will prosper... For the people, by the people, the people's government will last forever."
And in less than three minutes it just went down. The photographer was trying to get a nice form and couldn't take a picture. President Lincoln came down and sat gloomy about giving the worst speech of my life. Then I went home and lay next to my son for three days without saying goodbye. At the time, I didn't even know what that meant. However, since it is expressed as a record, it is the best expression of the spirit of democracy.
It became "Gettysburg Address".
In this way, words have power. Declare it verbally. However, in some cases it is also declared in writing. I think that if Luther had proclaimed the refusal of the 95 Articles only in language, it would not have been able to cause such a huge movement. Because the precious truth he had was declared in writing, he was able to have the destructive power that could turn the whole of Europe upside down. The power of writing is great. In this way, people declare verbally and in writing.
But in the Bible, God declares by action. After God destroyed everything in Noah's flood, He made a rainbow
He declared, "I will never allow such disorder on this earth again." Also, when he called Abraham's family, he declared it as an act of circumcision.
"You are mine. I love you. There is an indelible covenant between you and me in your body."
In addition, the Israelites were required to declare an action called the Passover. People slaughter sheep on the Passover day. Then, the blood of the sheep is applied to the lintels and the posts. We share the lamb. The child asks the father.
"Father, what day is this day?"
Then the father tells the story he heard from his grandfather and the story he heard from his father.
“On this day, when we suffered in ancient Egypt, on the night that God struck Egypt for the last time, when we did this, God saved our people as He promised. Houses painted with varnish just passed."
In this way, they kept the Passover, the great feast of God, when God's terrible wrath of 'pass over' passed, and expressed the promise God made with their confession of faith.
But our Lord again declares the whole body. He broke bread and gave thanks. And while breaking the bread
"Take this bread and eat it, for my body was torn for you."
And the Lord has the cup. after dividing
"Take this cup and drink it. This cup is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
You have declared He came to this earth and said many things. You taught me a lot. And, summing up all that has been taught, our Lord Jesus declared that this is the last thing he wants to do for us. It is a declaration of the whole body. It is a declaration of action. The Lord has invited you, dear ones, today. The present Lord speaks to us today.
"Take this cup. Eat this bread. This bread is my body that was torn for you. This cup is my precious blood, shed for you. Your sins will disappear as far from the east as the east is from the west. Curse has nothing to do with you, for you have been justified before God, and as children of God you have life."
Augustine said:
"Do you believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and was redeemed by His torn body and His shed precious blood? If you believe, take this bread."
We confess our faith with our whole body before the Lord who declared it with our whole body. Confession of faith is sometimes verbal. Confession of faith can sometimes be made in writing. But today, I will have a blessed time to make that confession of faith in my body. (hereafter sacrament meeting)
