Title: The Lord's Three Promises

The Gospel of John (85) The Lord's Three Promises (John 14:14-27)

1. Promise that if you pray, you will hear

The Lord spoke in the Darakbang will. “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it” (verse 14). Sincere prayer makes even ordinary people great. The secret that Elijah became a miraculous prophet was not because he had a special talent and disposition. He made mistakes, was discouraged, and at times wandered. Still, the reason I was able to become a miracle prophet is because of the earnest prayer of faith (James 5:17).

A sincere prayer changes the environment and changes the self. Furthermore, earnest prayer becomes a mysterious spiritual fence that protects the family and children. Sometimes some people say that the age of miracles has disappeared, but it is not that miracles have disappeared, but that faith and prayer that can cause miracles have disappeared, so that they cannot experience miracles.

Also, since the Lord said, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it”, so in Christianity, we end our prayer by saying, “I pray in the name of Jesus.” However, praying in the name of Jesus actually means more than ending the prayer in the name of Jesus. That is, we must seek according to the will of the Lord, so as not to become a victim of what the Lord wants and His name.

Someone prays like this. "God! It's embarrassing. Please take revenge. I pray in the name of Jesus.” There is no answer to that prayer. Still, you cannot protest by saying, “You said that if you ask in the name of the Lord, everything will be answered.” It was because they prayed only by borrowing the name of the Lord and asked for what the Lord did not want.

Someone buys a lottery ticket and prays. "God! Let me win the lottery! I pray in the name of Jesus.” There is no response either. Those who do not know the principles of the Lord's will and have weak faith think that the Lord's words in verse 14 sometimes go bankrupt. But it was because I misunderstood the verse. As we must pray that does not go against God's will and principles, a life of obedience to the Word is a key condition for answering prayers (verse 15).

2. Promise to send the Holy Spirit

The Lord promised to send the Holy Spirit (verses 16-20, 26). The Holy Spirit comes into the heart and guides the path of the saints. In the old days, I did not hesitate to commit a big sin, but after knowing Jesus, even when I commit a small sin, I keep regretting it, I feel sorry to God, and I promise not to do that again. Is it because of conscience? Conscience existed before you believed. The reason why we groan loudly even for small sins is because the Holy Spirit guides our hearts in our hearts.

In verse 26, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all appear, but their roles are different. God the Father decides the will, Jesus fulfills the will, and the Holy Spirit plays the role of experiencing the will in the hearts of the saints. Simply put, God diagnoses, the Son prescribes, and the Holy Spirit preserves. All three of these must be present. If we focus only on the will of God the Father, it becomes legalism; if we focus only on the blood of Jesus, it becomes laissez-faire; if we focus only on the work of the Holy Spirit, it becomes mysticism. The Trinity faith is a fundamental component of a balanced faith.

3. A Promise of Peace

The peace the world gives is usually freedom from trouble. Therefore, it is closer to 'escape' rather than 'solution', so it can only give temporary peace, not fundamental peace. On the other hand, the peace that Jesus gives is supernatural, lasting, and free from side effects because it is different from the peace of the world and is not controlled by circumstances (verse 27). After all, the peace that the Lord gives is the greatest tranquilizer of the soul.

What do you need to find the peace the Lord has given you? First, you must believe in the Lord and be born again. True peace is not given from outside, but from within the heart of a person who has been born again. Second, the purpose of life, the glory of God, must be clear. When you find a clear task to do in your holy vision and do it, peace abounds. Third, you must accept the Lord as the Lord of your life. True peace comes when belonging is clear. Fourth, we must be sure of entering the kingdom of heaven. If you are not sure about your own end, you will have no peace even if you have the world.

Also, in order to receive the peace that the Lord has given us, we must live a good life according to the will of Jesus. You have to use the time you have been given, use your material things well, and use the rest of your life well. If you live only for yourself, your anxiety will never stop and you will eventually regret it. Conversely, if you have a missionary heart and strive to do good by following the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, you will experience strange joy and peace filling your heart.
