Title: The Lord is my safe refuge. Text: Joshua 20:1-9
In today's text, the Israelites entered the land of Canaan and conquered Canaan. And the land was allotted. God's promise has been fulfilled. Now, it seemed that only happiness, safety, and peace were waiting for the people of Israel. But God told the Israelites to build a city of refuge. He also tells us to build 6 refuge castles nationwide. The command to build a city of refuge shows that there is no real safety in the lives of the people of Israel. No matter how much God has blessed the promised land, there is no safe place anywhere in this world. It also says that human beings are insecure beings who can commit sins by mistake because they are fragile. Even good willpower is being destroyed day by day because of their evil nature.
1. The Lord, the city of refuge, is a refuge from which everyone can escape.
You will reach the eternal kingdom. So the Lord said: John 14:6
2. The Lord is a city of refuge that gives us freedom from sin and death by his death
3. The Lord is the safest refuge that no one can invade.
Jos 20:5 No one who has entered the city of refuge can pull him out of it. No matter how strong, no matter how powerful, no matter how powerful, no one can bring out the sinners who have entered the city of refuge. Therefore, the city of refuge is the safest place for unintentional murderers in the land of Canaan. The safest place for sinners is the city of refuge. We need to know that the safest place in the world is the Lord. David knew it. Psalm 59:16 Psalm 61:3 So many people tried to kill and harm David, but they could not defeat David, who had fled to God. Psalm 18:2
4. The Lord is a safe refuge for those who repent.
Joshua 20:4 It is not the rich or the learned who can enter the city of refuge. Those who can enter the city of refuge are those who confess that they are sinners. And you must confess to the elder at the gate of the city of refuge that you have committed these and these sins before you can enter. He realizes and confesses that he is a sinner who has no choice but to die. one who repents. You cannot enter without repentance. The most important and basic thing to enter the city of refuge is to confess that you are a sinner and repent. If we want to receive the Lord's love, grace and help, and to live in safety and protection, we must confess that we are sinners before the Lord, lay down our sins and repent. There is no salvation without repentance. Without true repentance, there is no grace. There is no encounter with God without repentance. Without repentance there is no freedom from sin and death. The important thing we need to do now is to confess our sins to God. Only those who repent can enter the city of refuge.
