The Lord is our Healer
(John 5:1-9)
In today's text, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for the Jewish Feast. From there they went to a pool called Bethesda, where many sick people were waiting for the water to come. Because there are times when an angel comes down and stirs the pond, and if you do not miss this moment and jump into the pond first, you will be cured of any disease you have. The man the Lord met here was a 38-year-old sick man. This 38-year-old sick man shows us how we live in modern times. This 38-year-old sick man was ill and had no family members, so he was lonely. Also, it was hard for this sick man to live day to day. Today's text is the story of a 38-year-old sick man being healed and restored. Christianity is a religion of healing, and God is a God who heals and a God who heals.
How was the 38-year-old sick man treated?
1. There was hope/6.
Jesus asked him if you would like to get well. You asked this question in order to arouse hope in him. For people, hope is important.
We must have hope. When you have hope, you will be able to live with new abilities without getting frustrated in any circumstances. But now, this 38-year-old patient has no hope. In a hopeless and hopeless state, God's power does not appear. So the Lord asked if you want to be healed. He asked if there was any hope for you. The people who have dreams will not perish and can overcome any hardship or tribulation. As Romans 15:13 says, this hope is overflowing with the power of the Holy Spirit.
2. I prayed/v. 7.
Verse 7 says, “Lord, when the water is stirred, there is no one to put me in the water. While I am going, someone else enters first.” This means that I have the heart and desire to be healed, but I have no strength to do it myself without help from others. He would openly reveal his circumstances before the Lord. This is prayer. Some people think that prayer is very difficult, but prayer is easy. You just need to be honest about your situation. In order to experience this miracle of Bethesda in our lives, we must pray. There is no need to ejaculate in front of people, but we must tell our prayers to God who hears and answers them.
3. I obeyed the Word/8-9.
In verses 8-9, “Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your bed, and walk.”
Immediately the man got well, picked up his bed and walked.” But the Lord saw that there was hope for him and told him to get up, pick up your bed and walk. There is power in the word of the Lord. As in Hebrews 4:12, the Word of God is alive and has momentum, so when we obey it, works will happen. Therefore, we must be sober, pay attention to God's Word, and have faith in God's Word First.
Summary of the Word There is only one hope in this world, Jesus Christ. He is our healer. Therefore, I pray that you will always pray with hope and obey the Word, so that you can be healed of any disease and become a saint who glorifies God.
