Title: The Name and Role of God

God's Name and Role

Genesis 22:11-14

2005. 1. 30, morning

Most people who are socially active today have business cards. The reason is to let people know who you are. This is because, knowing who the other person is, you can do business with me, entrust me with work, and become friends. Business cards have two roles. The first is to let me know what my name is, and the other is to let me know what I am doing. But our God also wants to make himself known. The Bible is the Word that God gave because He wanted to make Himself known to humans. Therefore, you cannot know God without reading the Bible.

We see in the Bible that God made Himself known to man through His name. The name of God includes what God Himself is.

Dear saints, do you know what God's name is? According to the custom of man, God does not have a city, but his name is “Jehovah”. It means “I am who I am” (Exodus 3:14). And after the name of God, they are called branches according to their role. When God revealed Himself to man, He used names according to roles. And he delights in calling his name.

In the Old Testament Genesis, it is said that Abraham, the father of our faith, called on God's name whenever he offered sacrifices (Genesis 12:8). Also, in Psalm 29:2, David said, "Praise the name of the Lord, give the glory that is due to it" and in Romans 10:13, "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Then God answers Moses' question. In this answer, how can we have right faith with God in the Old Testament today? I hope that you have the grace to realize what the name of Jehovah God is and what it means by thinking about how the saints living today should lead a religious life.

1. This is Jehovah Jireh. (Ge 22:14)

In Genesis 22, when God told Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac, when Abraham offered his only son Isaac, whom he loved more than his own life, by faith on Mount Moriah, God saw Abraham's faith and prepared a ram instead of Isaac. . And Jehovah God called his name "Jehovah Jireh." It means “On the mountain of God prepared”.

As the name implies, Jehovah God is a good God who provides everything necessary for his children. Therefore, believers, please believe in the God of Jehovah Jireh. When we have this faith, God will prepare children, material things, spouses, and people. When believers come to believe in the God of Jehovah Jireh, they do not have to worry, worry, or worry, and are always grateful and live. Thus, Moses was prepared for Israel.

2. The name of Jehovah God is Jehovah Rapha. (Ex 15:26)

This name means that the people of Israel were thirsty and needed water to drink when they came to a place called "Mara" after they had crossed the Red Sea from Egypt by the power of God. Then I found water, but the water was bitter and I couldn't eat it. Then the people who forgot God's grace began to complain and complain again. At that time, God directed Moses to a branch of a tree, and when Moses threw the branch into the water, the net became sweet.

At that time, Jehovah God said to the Israelites, "I am the God who heals you." His name was "Jehovah Rapha."

Believe that Jehovah God is a God who not only saves us but also heals our spirit, soul, and body. May you be the saints who glorify you.

3. Jehovah is the God of Nissi. (Ex 17:15)

According to the book of Exodus, the Israelites who had left Egypt by God's grace went to war in the wilderness for the first time. They had to fight the Amalekites in a place called Rephidim. At that time, Moses went up to the mountain to pray. When Moses raised his hand, the Israelites were victorious, and when Moses lowered his hand, it was a strange war.

So Aaron and Hall helped Moses to keep Moses' hand from coming down, and Israel won the war. When Moses raised his hands here, it means that he prayed.

This is because in the Old Testament times, people raised their hands when praying. When the Israelites won the war and built an altar of thanks to God, Moses called Jehovah God the God of Jehovah Nissi. (Ex 17:15)

The word "Jehovah Nissi" means "the banner of the LORD", which means "God is the victorious God." Because if you win a war, you put your flag on that country. Therefore, dear saints, when you encounter various difficult problems, do not become discouraged, pray to God, and with God's help, I hope that you too will become believers who plant the banner of victory.

4. Jehovah is the God of Shalom. (Judges 6:24)

In Judges 6, when the people of Israel suffered under the control of the Midianites, Jehovah God heard their prayers and went to visit Gideon and chose Gideon as a judge to defeat the Midianites and give them peace for 40 years.

At that time, Jehovah God called himself “Jehovah Shalom.” Jehovah Shalom means "God of Peace". (Judges 6:24)

In Isaiah 9:6, the name of the Lord is said to be the Prince of Peace. Therefore, when we live on this earth, when we have fears, worries, worries, and worries that come from time to time, do not become discouraged and seek the God of peace. Then, I believe that Jehovah, the God of Shalom, will give you grace and peace through Jesus Christ.

5. Jehovah is the God of Laurie. (Psalm 23:1)

The word "Jehovah Laurie" means "Jehovah is the Shepherd" poem. This is the name of God that David called in Psalm 23.

Let's look at Psalm 23:1. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

David said that Jehovah God is our shepherd and we are his sheep.

Jesus also said, “I am the good shepherd” in John 10:10. What does a shepherd do? It is clearly stated in Psalm 23.

① He leads the sheep to green pastures and still waters.

② When passing through the valley of the shadow of death, he comforts the sheep with his staff and staff.

③ Give a reward in the sight of your enemies,

④ It said that your goodness and kindness will surely follow me all the days of my life.

⑤ Finally, it is said that we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

6. Jehovah is the God of Shammah. (Eze 48:35)

Jehovah Shammah means “the God who is right there.” In Ezekiel 48:35, when the Israelites were being held captive in a foreign country, they always looked at the temple in Jerusalem where God was and longed for it. At that time, Jehovah God spoke through the prophet Ezekiel. "I am the LORD, the God of Shammah." What does this mean? It means I am right here with you. Dear saints, please believe that the God of Jehovah Shammah is the God who is always with us wherever we go. So David confesses: Even if we are at the edge of the universe, God will keep us there, and even when we are in the depths of the sea, He will watch over us and protect us.

And He is the Almighty God, who watches over me even when we succeed, in the seat of failure, and in the seat of sin. Therefore, we need the consciousness of faith that God is always with us and protecting us no matter where we are.

7. Jesus is also God.

The name Jesus is a name we know all too well. This is the name given to us by the Virgin Mary through the angel Gabriel when she conceived a child by the Holy Spirit.

“Jesus” means “the one who will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). According to the meaning of the name, whoever believes in the name of Jesus Christ will receive forgiveness of sins and salvation. (John 1:12) And whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 13:13) We have been saved through faith in this name, and through this name we go to God to pray and receive God's grace. Therefore, there is no better name in this world than the name Jesus. So many South Americans have the name Jesus. Dear saints, I hope that you will become those who call this name often and spread it widely.

8. The God of the Holy Spirit.

If we believe in Jesus and confess our faith in Jesus, who has made us believe in Jesus and made us realize our thoughts and errors, the God who made us the temple is the God of the Holy Spirit.

Through this God of the Holy Spirit, we are connected to the kingdom of heaven.

Conclusion: Each role in the Old Testament carries out the name of God. called differently.

The God of preparation / the God of healing / the God of victory / the God of peace / the God of the shepherd / the God who is with us / The God of six kinds of work is all contained in the name of Jesus. The God who leads and accomplishes this process is the God of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, the most important thing for us believers today is that the salvation of the cross that God accomplished through Jesus Christ in the Old Testament is given through the name of Jesus, and the process of giving is done under the presence of the Holy Spirit. So, we have the Holy Spirit in us, but the reason we demand the presence of the Holy Spirit once again is because the promises of the Old Testament and the New Testament come to us and bear fruit only when the Holy Spirit works.

Therefore, all of our lives, our family, our business, our farming, our relationships with our neighbors, the fellowship of saints, and all our relationships, under the control of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus in prayer, the protection of the Lord and the guidance of the Holy Spirit are manifested in every detail. God of victory / God of victory / God of peace / God of the shepherd / God who is with you / I hope that you will always be with us through this Holy Spirit, praise the name of God, and live the life of the saints enjoying the promises the Lord has made.
